Six former police officers guilty of having tortured a citizen to death

An Egyptian court Wednesday slapped six former police officers with prison terms after finding them guilty of having tortured a citizen to death in 2012, according to a local judicial source. The six policemen worked in Giza police office. According to a source of the journal, their victims had been arrested without motivation. The process could still pass in Appel Court. Amnesty international has recalled that “hundreds” of Egyptian citizens have been tortured since the beginning of 2015.

Egypt's Chief of staff says his country persuaded Haftar to repudiate grave-digging crimes.

The Egyptian Chief of Staff, Mahmoud Hijazi, said Tuesday that he and Khalifa Haftar had prolonged discussions over a couple of days aiming at convincing the latter to disavow and apologize for the crimes of exhuming the bodies from Ganfouda graves, and killing and torturing civilians and women by his militias in Benghazi. Hijazi told Haftar, that in case of no-disavowing of exactions, he’ll be consider as terrorist organisation. Egypt seems to have a preference for LNA and General Hafter as Libyan counterpart, indeed, last month, Egypt has refused to meet the Seraij, the Libyan President in Tripoli.

Sudan’s Foreign Minister and his Egyptian counterpart meet to contain a muffled crisis between the two countries

Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukry will meet in Khartoum in the first half of April in an attempt to contain a muffled crisis between the two countries. Indeed, Tensions between Khartoum and Cairo have escalated following the former’s decision to restrict imports of Egyptian farming products which was reciprocated by Cairo’s decision to raise residency fees for Sudanese living in Egypt. But both countries have expressed their wishes to strengthen their cooperation and overpass this misunderstanding.

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi stressed strengthening ties with France during a meeting on Tuesday with a delegation from the Egyptian-French friendship committee headed by Catherine Mouran, head of the education and media committee in the French senate. Egypt has recalled the importance of its ties with France,  France has answered with the importance of Egypt in the counter-terrorism policy.

After the exodus of Coptic families from North Sinai, following the numerous aggressions last weeks, the question of the relocation of Coptic family create a debate in Egypt. According to some echoes, recorded by the Journal Al-Monitor, victims disclaiming the incompetence of the government to manage the situation, their unconscious of the situation. Number of families refute to go back in al-Arisch, where a part of the city had been destructed by recent conflicts, and, moreover, it remain unsafe for Coptic families. Maher Zeki, a volunteer at the Monastery of Saint Anthony, which has welcomed 52 displaced families in Future City in the Ismailia governorate, said that he is betting on public solidarity to support the displaced. He noted that el-Arish residents do not want to return because of the death threats against them, so the only solution is for them to integrate into the areas in which they have sought shelter. The volunteers are ensuring the smooth flow of this process, he claimed.

 

Security campaigns in North Sinai: 300 suspects arrested

After the death of 5 Egyptian’s soldats, killed by a bomb attack in North Sinai, and the death of 18 civil these last days due to attacks, since the beginning of March, security campaigns in North Sinai have killed at least 30 militants, arrested more than 165 suspects over terror-related charges, detained about 300 suspects over charges including smuggling and illegal migration, ruined several smuggling tunnels, detonated dozens of explosive devices and seized large amounts of weapons and ammunition. Most of these attacks had been vindicated by a terrorist group affiliate to ISIS.

Al-Sisi and Abbas to discuss humanitarian conditions of occupied lands.

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas will arrive in Egypt on Sunday on an official visit that comes following an invitation from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. Main topics will be on Economy, security and humanitarian conditions in the occupied Palestine. Egypt will also recall the necessity of dialogue between Palestine and Israel. This topic will be also one of the major one during the Arab League submit at the end of the month in Jordania.

 

Egypt appoints permanent NATO envoy.

Egyptian ambassador to Belgium had been appointed Egyptian ambassador to the NATO (which also seat in Brussel). This new permanent mission toward the NATO will avoid Egypt to maintain a permanent link with the NATO, and influence its decision if necessary. The NATO secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, told that : “Egypt being so close, a key nation, we, I, expressed from the NATO side that we are ready to help build structures, defence institutions in Libya”. So in front of the Middle-East situation, this New permanent mission could have a great impact on future decisions about the Middle-East.

Armed Forces arrest 398 migrants along Egypt’s western and southern borders

The spokesperson for Egypt’s Armed Forces issued a statement announcing that troops arrested 398 migrants along the country’s western and southern borders from February 21 to March 13. A large part of them had been arrested around the Salloum border crossing with Libya. Migrants are trying to flew from Egypt to Libya to have an access to Europe, crossing the Mediterranean sea. But we also have an other category of migrant, which are the Egyptians fleeing from Egypt to find job opportunities in Libya. However, even if Egypt has increased the control of its borders, and if EU, especially Italy try to reduce the migrant flux, 181,446 undocumented migrants arrived in Italy last year, when 4,579 are reportly dead.

Ghaffar and Sobhi visited security forces in North Sinai
