The Arab League, the European Union, the African Union, and the United Nations renewed their commitment to the Libyan stability, sovereignty, integrity, and the unity of institutions emanating from the Libyan Political Agreement (PA) that signed in Skhirat, confirming the need for peaceful settlement to the Libyan crisis, refusing intimidation or use of military power, and the foreign intervention. The quadrilateral meeting has expressed its oppositions to recent violences in the Oil crescent, and told its preoccupation about recent violences in Tripoli. But it had recalled the necessity to overpass these conflicts to reach peace. The role of regional partners had been underlined, and EU has promised an economical help plan of E120 millions to deal about immigration.

The United Nations Human Rights Council: resolution for boycott of Israeli settlements

The United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday is set to debate a resolution demanding that the international community boycott Israeli settlements. We have the fifth resolution condemning Israel for human rights violations in the Golan Heights is also expected to be approved. By resolution adopted by CDU, five of these are against Israel. The resolutions call on Israel to end settlement activity and demand that Israel fully withdraw to the pre-1967 borders. The problematic activity includes “financial transactions, investments, purchases, procurements, loans, the provision of services, as well as other economic and financial activities in or benefiting Israeli settlements”, the resolution states. Israel isn’t a member of UNHRC but is engaged with the council. It is expected to boycott Monday’s day long debate.

The U.N. Population Funding has deployed first mobile delivery unit in western Mosul for lifesaving

The U.N. Population Funding (UNFPA) has deployed the first mobile delivery unit inside western Mosul to meet the lifesaving needs of primary healthcare for women and girls. The U.N. released a statement  saying the humanitarian needs of thousands of people still inside Mosul remain a “major concern” as military operations continue to regain the western side. According to the United Nations, the mobile delivery unit has been deployed in al-Maamoun district to serve the population in western Mosul. The mobile delivery room is funded by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO and the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA). Around 255,000 people have been displaced from Mosul and surrounding areas since October, including more than 100,000 since the latest military campaign in western Mosul began on Feb. 19, according to United Nations figures.

The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) condemned the UN for revoking a report accusing Israel of imposing an apartheid regime on Palestinians. “Instead of succumbing to political blackmail or allowing itself to be censured or intimidated by external parties, the UN should condemn the acts described in the report and hold Israel responsible”, said PLO Executive Committee member HananAshrawi on Saturday. With an average of 45,000 people fleeing western Mosul as Iraqi forces fight to retake densely-populated neighborhoods from ISIS, the top UN humanitarian representative to Iraq described the strain put on the humanitarian community in the country as overwhelming and nearing a breaking point. “If pace of displacement accelerates further, to be absolutely frank, it’s going to stretch us to a breaking point”, Lise Grande told reporters in teleconference briefing on Thursday, adding that 45,000 people per week have been leaving the west.OCHR, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, stated that 13,350 people were displaced on March 3 alone. “We’re literally constructing around the clock”, Grande said, summarizing that when there’s a plot ready and a tent on it, mattresses inside, water and sanitation, humanitarian organizations inform the military that site is ready. Grande said 6,800 people left Mosul on Thursday, and there was space available for 24,000 people in displacement camps. “Tomorrow, if 20,000 people come out [in one day], there’s our capacity”, Grande said.

UN human rights described the Syrian conflict: worst man-made disaster since World War II

The UN’s human rights chief has described the Syrian conflict as the “worst man-made disaster since World War II,” citing widespread torture and a “tidal wave of bloodshed and atrocity.” “Today, in a sense the entire country has become a torture chamber: a place of savage horror and absolute injustice”, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights ZeidRa’ad al-Hussein said in a statement on March 14. He called for the release of tens of thousands of prisoners being held by the warring sides in Syria and said that bringing the perpetrators of crimes, including torture, to justice was necessary for reaching a lasting peace. Zeid also said efforts to end “this senseless carnage” had been repeatedly vetoed, an apparent reference to Russia and China’s steps to protect President Bashar al-Assad by blocking Western-backed UN Security Council resolutions.
