A senior American diplomat has reassured the Kingdom about America’s continuing commitment to strong and robust relations regardless of the changes one may see after the US administration is led by Donald Trump. Christopher Henzel, deputy chief of mission at the Riyadh-based US Embassy, said that the Saudi-US partnership “will remain strong.” “This partnership is driven by the interests of both countries, and is sustained by the dense network of relationships and cooperation that has developed over the past 80 years,” said Henzel, while speaking during an election night reception hosted by the US Embassy here on Tuesday.

Houthi militas’ attack repelled by Saudi forces

On Wednesday, Saudi forces stationed on the southern border repelled an attack by Houthi militias and forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The attack targeted Al-Dood Mountain in the Al-Khobah area. Saudi forces launched a counterattack that resulted in the death of at least 15 Houthi fighters and the capture of four others by the Parachute Brigade. Dozens of militiamen fled the battleground, abandoning their weapons.

5 civilians wounded by Houthi militias’ military projectiles

Five citizens were wounded on Monday in the border town of Al-Towal, in Jazan, by military projectiles launched from Yemeni territory by Houthi militias. The projectiles also caused damage to a mosque, the house of a citizen and several vehicles. Jazan Civil Defense spokesman Yahya Abdullah Al-Qahtani said Civil Defense teams received a report about a military projectile launched by Houthi militias from Yemen on Al-Towal, which resulted in the injury of the civilians who were transferred to hospital for treatment.

Saudi Arabia and China: more cooperation over terrorism and security

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has condemned in the strongest terms Yemen’s Houthi rebels, backed by the militias of deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh for targeting the holy city of Makkah with a ballistic missile. The executive committee of the OIC held an emergency ministerial meeting on Saturday to discuss the serious developments represented by the launching of the missile by the Houthi-Saleh militias. The meeting denounced the rebels and those who provide them with arms including rockets and missiles to target Makkah. The meeting termed it an act of aggression against the holy sites in Saudi Arabia, “which is a provocation for world Muslims and evidence of their refusal to comply with the international community and its demands.”

Relations between Canada and Saudi Arabia are distinguished

Canadian Foreign Minister Stephane Dion said relations between the Kingdom and his country are distinguished. Dion said during the meeting that relations between the Kingdom and his country are excellent and that goes for human rights development in both countries. They discussed a number of other issues of joint concern, the relations between the two countries and ways of developing them. Al-Aiban highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts under Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman in supporting human rights issues at all levels, in addition to what Saudi Arabia does to uphold justice.
