A Rangers vehicle on patrol near the Amani Shah graveyard signalled for two men on a passing motorcycle to stop, sources said. The men stopped and one lobbed a ‘cracker’ into the graveyard. Rangers sources said they shot and killed the man who threw the ‘cracker’ into the graveyard. Upon examination, they found he was wearing a suicide vest.
Two Ahmadis and eight others were arrested on Thursday on the charges of murder after an Ahmadi place of worship in Chakwal came under attack, Jamat-e-Ahmadiyya Spokesperson Saleemuddin told media. On December 12, a mob of 1,000 people attacked an Ahmadi place of worship. Although the police had reportedly dispersed the crowd, one person died of a cardiac arrest, while six others were injured. Eight others, accused of the attack, have also reportedly been arrested, but the police had not put this on record and denied their detentions till the filing of this report, Express Tribune reported.
Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has claimed to kill four terrorists of banned outfits, during a search operation in district Sheikhupura. According to details, on a tip-off, CTD officials raided a hideout of eight terrorists, affiliated with banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Tuesday. Spotting the police, the criminals opened firing on the law enforcement officials, prompting their retaliation.
A violent mob of 1,000 people participating in an Eid Miladun Nabi procession on Monday tried to besiege and attack an Ahmadi worship place in Chakwal. The charged attackers were reportedly looking for Ahmadis to harm them. Those present at the place of worship locked the building from inside and refused to concede control of the structure until police managed to prevail on them. The attackers are said to be raising slogans of their ‘victory’.
In his first visit as army chief to Quetta, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday ordered to continue indiscriminate operation against militants across Balochistan. The army chief, who took the command of Pakistan’s powerful army from his predecessor Gen (r) Raheel Sharif last month, also praised the performance of security agencies in controlling the insurgency in the province, the ISPR said in a statement.
Pakistan’s new army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday met Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and briefed him about the security situation along the Line of Control and measures being taken against extremism. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House here, according to an official statement issued by the PM Office.

At least 12 suspected terrorists were reportedly killed in air strikes in the Rajgal valley area of Khyber Agency on Sunday. According to security sources several hideouts were also destroyed in the air strikes. Pakistan Air Force jets precisely targeted militant hideouts in Rajgal valley in which 12 militants were killed and several hideouts were destroyed’, confirmed security officials. Khyber Agency and North Waziristan are among Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous tribal districts near the Afghan border, rife with homegrown insurgents and foreign militants.
Pakistan has criticised UN Security Council’s inaction to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which it deems essential for peace and stability in the Middle East. Speaking in the General Assembly in the debate on “The Question of Palestine”, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Maleeha Lodhi said that inaction by the Security Council has not only undermined its own credibility but has also weakened the ideals that the organisation espouses. These, she said, includes ideals of human dignity, of peaceful coexistence based on sovereign equality of all nations and of the right to self-determination of all people.
Pakistan said on Wednesday that India has deployed one million troops in Jammu and Kashmir, which is the highest concentration of soldiers in the world at one place. Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said the presence of Indian troops in such a “large scale was a hurdle in implementing the UN resolution” on Kashmir. The spokesman alleged that since the last four months, Indian troops have “killed innocent Kashmiris and violated basic human rights”.
