Electoral commission yet to be provided with funds needed for referendum

The Kurdistan Region’s Independent High Electoral and Referendum Commission (IHERC) has yet to be provided with the funds needed for the referendum anticipated to be held this year on the region’s independence, spokesman Shirwan Zrar said. During a press conference held in Erbil following the committee’s meeting with Kurdish political parties under the auspices of the United Nations, the IHERC spokesman said the allocated money is sufficient only for the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections. “An average of 22 billion Iraqi dinars is set to be deposited to the commission’s account for the parliamentary and presidential elections”, Zrar said. A date for holding the Kurdistan Region’s referendum has yet to be scheduled. According to IHERC estimates there are around 3,500,000 eligible voters. The IHERC spokesman said the commission will attempt to use electronic services in the process of counting votes for an efficient process and to announce the result of the elections as soon as possible. The committee has been in touch with the Ministry of Health to combat voter fraud and have clear voter registration rolls, Zrar said.

Iran's missile program for deterrence: Spokesman

Iran would continue its current missile policy which is defensive and for deterrence, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said. Speaking in a press conference, Qasemi noted that Iran has a transparent missile policy and its missile program does not violate any UN resolution. Iran plays an advisory role in Iraq and Syria upon a request from their legal governments, the official said, noting that Islamic Republic aims to help these two countries to expel terrorists and establish peace in the war-torn regions. Elaborating on Iran stance on new US congress bill to increase Iran’s sanctions, he said that the US practical actions and policies are important to Iran and Tehran is ready to counter any US measure. Speaking on Qatar and Kuwait reactions to US President Donald Trump visit to the region, Qasemi said that presence of foreign powers in the region has always disrupted regional security and unity. There was no consensus among countries that took part in the Riyadh summit on the summit declaration, he added. Qasemi noted that Iran has been always in talk with regional states including Kuwait, Qatar and Oman to resolve differences. “Before the Riyadh summit, we cautioned the Arabic-Islamic countries of Israel plot for sewing discord among Islamic countries”, he added. Elsewhere in his remarks, the spokesman hailed huge turnout of Iranians residing abroad in the May 19 presidential election. He said also that Iran is pursuing martyrdom of two of its border guards in the joint border with Turkey.

U.S. might ban laptops on all flights into and out of the country

The United States might ban laptops from aircraft cabins on all flights into and out of the country as part of a ramped-up effort to protect against potential security threats, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said on Sunday. In March, the government imposed restrictions on large electronic devices in aircraft cabins on flights from 10 airports, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Turkey. Kelly said the move would be part of a broader airline security effort to combat what he called “a real sophisticated threat”. He said no decision had been made as to the timing of any ban.

 

Kushner ties to Russia questioned as Trump blasts media lies

Congressional Democrats on Sunday demanded to hear directly from top White House adviser Jared Kushner over allegations of proposed secret back-channel communications with Russia, saying the security clearance of President Donald Trump’s son-in-law may need to be revoked. Trump, having returned from a nine-day overseas trip, immediately railed against administration leaks, calling them “fabricated lies”, in a flurry of tweets. And his Homeland Security head defended the idea of establishing that kind of communication as a “smart thing” and said he didn’t see “any big issue here” for Kushner. But to the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, it’s “obviously very concerning” that a key Trump campaign figure was possibly seeking secret communications with a country that intelligence experts say intervened in the 2016 election.

 

OIC Chief urges Islamic Ummah to help refugees, poor families.

Saudis are being trained in Argentina to apply a new agreement regarding nuclear cooperation between Saudi Kingdom and Argentina. Agreement’s purpose is to develop usage of nuclear power to produce electricity and for this, they are going to exchange expertise in this matter in Buenos Aires. Saudi Kingdom is going to be ready for when it sets up its own nuclear power. By know, Argentina has been exporting some products such as frozen chicken, fruit, vegetables and corns, conversely Kingdom exports petrochemical products. Both of Saudi and Argentinian government decided to expand their economical relations in compliance with goals of Vision 2030.

Darmanovic: Russia’s involvement surprised us

Minister of Foreign Affairs Srdjan Darmanovic was surprised by the strong involvement of Russia in Montenegro’s internal affairs. It refers in particular to the support that, in his opinion, Russian intelligence has given to anti-NATO oppositions within Montenegro. He stressed that Montenegro’s involvement within NATO is not an aggressive assault against any country, including Russia: in fact, as he added, Podgorica keeps having strong commercial relations with Moscow and also economically under different profiles, such as the tourist one. He stressed that the Balkan area is heading towards NATO, with particular reference to Albania, and towards the European Union.

Three terrorists in Tamanrasset

on 27th may, Armed forces arrested three terrorists in Tamanrasset. During the operation, militaries sized a Kalashnikov, a semi-auto rifle Simonov and a lot of ammunitions. During another operation in the in the south of the Country, army discovered many weapons and ammunitions, a machinegun, two Kalashnikov, a rifle MAS-36, one grenade and a lot of ammunitions. The Defense ministry said that this operations, conducted near the borders, have the aim of protect Algeria and its borders. He then remembered that last week army killed dangerous terrorists, and sized many weapons, including mines, and eleven bunkers.

Civilians Bear Brunt As Fresh Syria Strikes Kill 35, Says UN

A fresh wave of airstrikes in eastern Syria killed at least 35 civilians including women and children, state media and a monitoring group reported Friday, the U.N. human rights chief said civilians are increasingly paying the price of escalating attacks against the Islamic State group in the country. “The same civilians who are suffering indiscriminate shelling and summary executions by ISIL, are also falling victim to the escalating airstrikes, particularly in the northeastern governorates of” Raqqa and Deir el-Zour, al-Hussein said in a statement from Geneva, using another acronym for IS. “Unfortunately, scant attention is being paid by the outside world to the appalling predicament of the civilians trapped in these areas”. In the meantime, The U.S.-led coalition also announced on Friday that a U.S. service member has died in northern Syria. A statement said the serviceman died of injuries sustained “during a vehicle roll-over”. It was not immediately clear whether the incident was related to a combat situation. No further details were made available.
