UN and humanitarian partners are strenghtening their presence in Aleppo

The U.N. envoy for Syria says the United Nations and its humanitarian aid partners are strengthening their presence in government-controlled western Aleppo, hoping to “make a difference” in the city’s besieged, rebel-held east. De Mistura expressed concern about how those displaced people would be treated, which he said explains the increased U.N. presence in part. He added the enhanced presence also aims to “deter possible mishandling” of at least 27,000 people who have fled from eastern to western Aleppo or nearby Kurdish-held areas as Syrian forces and their Russian backers advance into rebel zones.

‘Army of Aleppo’ created by armed Syrian opposition factions to fight Assad regime

All the armed Syrian opposition factions in the besieged districts of opposition-held eastern Aleppo have decided to dissolve their individual organisations, and will now instead reform as a newly created “Army of Aleppo”, opposition forces have declared. Although the opposition has previously united their command structures, notably leading to a brief breaking of the regime’s siege on eastern Aleppo, this is the first time that they have completely unified as a single entity. Meanwhile, the President of the Aleppo local council issued calls pleading for the Syrian regime assault to pause and for a corridor to be created to allow civilians wishing to flee the violence in Syria’s largest city safe passage.

Moscow would like Syria’s Aleppo situation to be resolved by end of 2016

Mikhail Bugdanov,  Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, affirmed that Moscow hopes to resolve the situation in Aleppo by the end of the year. According to Russian Defense Minister, this week brought a breakthrough for the Russian-backed Syrian drive to retake eastern Aleppo, allowing humanitarian relief to be brought in to tens of thousands of civilians living in the recaptured districts. On Monday, the Russian-run Syria Reconciliation Center reported that more than 500 fighters in Aleppo chose to surrender to the advancing Syrian Army. Russian Reconciliation Center also noted that 3,179 people, including 1,519 children have left eastern Aleppo through the ‘humanitarian corridors’ set up by Syrian government forces. This week, Damascus stepped up its siege on eastern Aleppo, a city that for years has been split between government troops and militant forces. The Syrian Army is targeting Al-Nusra Front and other radical militants. The operation put a strain on the ability of armed groups to prevent civilians from fleeing areas under their control. Previously, some of the terrorist groups controlling eastern Aleppo, like Al-Qaeda off-shoot Al-Nusra Front, used deadly force to stop civilians trying to escape.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s airmobile hospital will be sent to Aleppo

Russian Emergencies Ministry’s press service announced that Russia will soon deploy mobile hospitals to Aleppo region to provide treatment to residents. According to Ministry’s press service, Under the instructions issued by the Russian President, the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s airmobile hospital and doctors will fly to Syria in the morning on November 30. The hospital will be deployed near of Aleppo to provide highly-qualified, high-tech medical assistance to residents of that Syrian city hit by artillery bombardments by terrorist groups’ gunmen. Among those who need emergency medical assistance are children, women and senior citizens who cannot get it to the full extent in Aleppo whose infrastructure has been destroyed and hospitals damaged. The Ministry also confirmed that Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu issued an order to swiftly send a special task medical team and a field hospital to  Aleppo. It comes as the Russian military announced a breakthrough in Syria’s operation to retake the militant-held part of Aleppo. Tens of thousands of civilians, who were previously kept by armed groups as human shields, are now in the government-controlled part of the city and require supplies and medical attention.

Emergency meeting with UN Security Council called by French FM

On Tuesday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault called on the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting on the Syrian city of Aleppo in order to resolve the humanitarian situation in the city. “Faced with the humanitarian catastrophe in Aleppo, he demanded immediate meeting of the UN Security Council in order to examine the situation in the martyred city and the ways of delivering relief to the people”. On Wednesday, the French Foreign Ministry is set to receive President of the City Council of Aleppo Brita Hagi Hassan.

Over 40% of Eastern Aleppo has been freed from terrorists by Syrian government army

On Monday, Russian center of reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, affirmed that more that 40% of Eastern Aleppo’s district have been liberated from terrorists by the Syrian governments army. According to the center, more that 80000 people live in the liberated district and more than 5000 civilians fled terrorists-controlled southern districts of Eastern Aleppo to find shelter in government-controlled district. Early in the day, the Russian reconciliation center said that Syrian government troops have regained control over 12 quarters in eastern Aleppo .

A third of the rebel-held territory in eastern Aleppo has been captured by Syrian government forces

Syrian government forces have captured a third of the rebel-held territory in eastern Aleppo, monitors say. The advance, after heavy bombing from the air, is a major blow for the armed opponents of President Bashar al-Assad. Thousands of civilians have fled the besieged districts after a weekend of heavy fighting. Hundreds of families have been displaced within the area.

On Sunday, a statement of Russia’s center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said that the Syrian Armed Forces over the past two days managed to move forward into the eastern districts of the Aleppo city. The report affirmed that  in Aleppo’s eastern part from Jabhat al-Nusra and their armed allies have been liberated five blocks and more than 2,000 houses. Russia’s center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria has organized humanitarian aid delivery to Aleppo’s recaptured districts. According to SANA news agency, about 1,500 people have managed to leave eastern districts of Syria’s city of Aleppo that are occupied by militants, on Sunday. The Syrian Army is now conducting a large-scale clearance operation in the Masaken Hanano district, where terrorists from Al-Nusra Front and other radical groups mined buildings and roads to prevent civilians from fleeing the area through humanitarian corridors established by government forces.

UN’s proposal for autonomous zone in Aleppo rejected by Syrian FM

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moallem rejected a UN proposal on Sunday to grant autonomy to the rebel-held eastern areas of Aleppo, Arabiya Al-Hadath news channel has reported. “The autonomy proposal put forward by [Staffan] de Mistura is rejected completely because it undermines our national sovereignty and rewards terrorism,” Muallem told at a press conference after talks with the UN envoy to Syria. De Mistura arrived in Damascus earlier on Sunday to meet officials at the Foreign Ministry.
