Two Russian soldiers injured in Aleppo, humanitarian corridor shelled by militants

BreakingNews @en di

Russian military reported that two Russian soldiers were injured by enemy fire in Aleppo when a humanitarian corridor, they were guarding, was shelled by militants. The attack targeted the western part of the corridor near Castello road. A unilateral ceasefire in the embattled Syrian city came into force at 9am local time on Friday and lasted for ten hours, until 7pm. The pause is intended to allow civilians and armed militants to leave the eastern part of the city through separate humanitarian corridors. Earlier on Thursday, militants intensified their attacks on the government-held western part of the city.

Terrorists in Aleppo keep attacking humanitarian corridors

Russian Defense Ministry asserted that terrorists in Aleppo show no sign of de-escalating attacks on residential areas and humanitarian corridors. Commenting on the development of the Russian humanitarian pause, established on October 20 to secure the release of civilians via six specially-created escape routes, the Russian Defense Ministry noted that on Saturday night only 12 Syrians had managed to flee east Aleppo. The MoD noted that terrorists in Aleppo continue to intensively shell the residential areas and humanitarian corridors. The humanitarian pause is the only lifeline extended to civilians in east Aleppo, as the Russian and Syrian Air Forces continue to observe a no-fly-zone over Aleppo, staying at least 10km from the city.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on October 24 that he is concerned about renewed fighting in the Syrian city of Aleppo after a break of several days, according to the State Department. Lavrov and Kerry discussed the situation in Syria in a phone call and agreed that experts from several countries meeting in Geneva would continue searching for ways to resolve the Aleppo crisis, the department said. During the call, Kerry expressed concern about the renewal of attacks on Aleppo by Syrian government forces and Russian warplanes after a pause in the fighting last week, State Department spokesman John Kirby said. He noted that humanitarian aid had still not made it through to people under siege in Aleppo, because Russia and Syria failed to provide security guarantees to the UN during the pause.

The humanitarian pause in Aleppo has been estende by Russia

On Friday, Sergey Rudskoi, Head of the Main Operations Directorate at Russia’s General Staff, said that the humanitarian pause in Aleppo has been extended by one day. It will be in force from 8am to 7pm on 22th  of October. The military official pointed out that militants in Syria have built up an armor-backed force of more than 1,200 men ready for mounting an offensive against Aleppo. According to Rudskoi, the militants have tanks, armored vehicles and 20 pickup trucks carrying large-caliber machineguns. In accordance with Rudskoi, the moderate opposition and its curators are obstructing normalization of the situation in Syria’s Aleppo, while the US provides no reaction to Russia’s calls to exert influence on militants in Aleppo to make them stop attacks along humanitarian corridors.
