Russian military forces launched a large scale operation on Homs and Idlib provinces

On Tuesday, Russian Defense Minister, Sergey Shoigu, announced that  Russian military has launched a large-scale operation against terrorists stationed in Homs and Idlib provinces of Syria. According to the Russian Defense Minister, the operation involves the frigate Admiral Grigorovich that has made launches of Kalibr cruise missiles, Bastion coastal defense systems and, for the first time in the Navy’s history, the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov has started to take part in combat operations. Shoigu asserted that strikes are focused on ammunition depots, groups of terrorists and their training centers, as well as facilities being used to manufacture mass destruction means that are used against civilians. President Vladimir Putin previously ordered the Defense Ministry to provide reliable air cover for the Russian forces in Syria. On Tuesday, Shoigu said the Russian military has been covered with S-300 and S-400 Triumph air defense systems.

Food rations in Aleppo are almost ended

Aid workers in eastern Aleppo were distribuiting the last available food rations on Thursday as the quarter of a milion people besieged in the syrian city entered what is expected to be a cruel winter, U.N. humanitarian adviser Jan Engeland said. Speaking in Geneva, Egeland said he was hopeful of a deal on a four-part humanitarian plan the United Nations sent to all parties to the conflict several days ago. The plan covers delivery of food and medical supplies, medical evacuations and access for health workers. Syria’s government rejected a U.N. request to send aid to east Aleppo during November, but Egeland said he was confident that Damascus would give its permission if the new U.N. humanitarian initiative was accepted by all sides. He said he also had the clear impression that Russia would continue its pause in air strikes over the northern city.

Terrorists in Aleppo are using chemical weapons

According to a Russian Defense Ministry’s statement, Russian military experts have found unexploded shells indicating that terrorists in Aleppo have been using chemical weapons in their regular attacks on civilian and Syrian government-held areas of the cityTerrorists in Aleppo are using chemical weapons. Traces of chlorine and white phosphorus were detected during initial analysis of the samples. The use of chemical weapons was sued for many month and in late October, Syrian state media said that poison gas was fired at a government-held area of Aleppo, causing massive respiratory problems among the local population. The use of chlorine as a weapon is prohibited under the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention, which Syria joined in 2013, after a Russian diplomatic effort. In January of this year, OPCW confirmed the destruction of all chemical weapons declared by the Syrian Arab Republic.

OSCE doesn’t think Ukraine is ready to implement the political portion of the Minsk agreement

According to Russian ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Alexander Lukashevich, Ukraine is not ready to implement the political portion of the Minsk agreement and is trying to sabotage efforts in all areas. Speaking at a meeting of the OSCE’s Permanent Council ,Lukashevich affirmed that Wednesday’s meeting of the Contact Group clearly demonstrates that Kiev is sabotaging the work in all directions. Lukashevich emphasized the fact that the dialogue on a political settlement has been blocked under the pretense of ongoing clashes.

According to PM Medvedev, USA’s active role in the Middle East is necessary

On Friday, following talks with Palestinian leader, Mahmoud Abbas, Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, affirmed that Washington’s active role in the Middle East is necessary.  He also said that Russia will continue its efforts to settle the relations between Israel and Palestine. Mahmoud Abbas in his turn also confirmed that Palestine expected the new US administration to help it settle its conflict with Israel. Abbas has also called on Russia to play a permanent effective role in ironing out disagreements between Israel and Palestine. The Palestinian leader noted that during the talks with Medvedev the two leaders raised the issue of a trilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in Moscow, which, according to Abbas, the Israeli side earlier proposed to postpone.

The five largest Russian banks defended themselves from cyberattacks

On Thursday, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Russia Sergey Shvetsov said that five largest Russian banks, which had been under cyberattacks for the past two days, managed to defend themselves.  The attack began on Tuesday afternoon, and continued for two days straight, according to a source close to Russia’s Central Bank quoted by RIA Novosti. The initial attack was rather massive and its power intensified over the course of the day. The power of the attacks peaked at 660 thousands of requests per second. Some of the banks were attacked repeatedly.  The attack came from a wide-scale botnet involving at least 24,000 computers, located in 30 countries. “Sberbank” and “Alfabank” two of the largest Russian bank, confirmed the attack to their server.

According to Ukranian Defence Ministry none of its employees has been detained in Crimea

On Thursday, the Leninsky District court of the Crimean city of Sevastopol arrested three suspected members of a subversive group that had allegedly plotted acts of sabotage at Crimea’s military facilities. According to a statement published by Federal Security Service, on 9th of  November, the Federal Security Service detained members of a terrorist group deployed by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate, which planned sabotage attacks on Crimea’s military facilities and critical civilian infrastructure. The service claimed that powerful explosive devices, weapons and rounds of ammunition, means of special communications and also maps of facilities had been seized from the detained persons. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has denied that any of its employees had been detained by Russia’s Federal Security Service in Crimea. Commenting on the thwarted attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Ukrainian authorities resorted to practicing terrorism instead of seeking peaceful solution to the crisis, adding that German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande were notified of the “gross provocation” orchestrated by Kiev.

6,000 gunmen are trying to force the corridor towards eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo

On Thursday, during a press briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova reported that about 6,000 gunmen are trying to fight their way  towards eastern Aleppo. According to Russian authorities, in Aleppo, Jihadists are attacking from southwest continuing their attempts to force the corridor towards eastern neighborhoods of the city. The tactical direction carried out by Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (former Jabhat al-Nusra) through the central headquarters. Zakharova also asserted that the Russian-US agreement on Syria remains in force and no one has abolished it and the work needs to be continued.

Moscow on the International community’s efforts

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed on Thursday that the West seeks to prevent attacking Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization in Syria to take advantage of it. During a press conference with Benin’s foreign minister in Moscow, Lavrov said that the UN Security Council recently condemned the use of civilians as human shields by ISIS in the Iraqi city of Mosul but it didn’t do the same thing against the practices of Jabhat al-Nusra in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo. The Russian Minister pointed out that Moscow is concerned that the international community’s efforts regarding overcoming the crises in Syria, Iraq and other areas should be transparent, fair and not accompanied with attempts to achieve certain geopolitical goals.
