U.S.-backed forces fighting Islamic State in Syria launched a new phase of their offensive on Thursday, a statement said, but they have not yet begun to attack the militant group’s stronghold of Raqqa city in an apparent delay in the operation. But the fourth phase of the campaign aims to clear Islamic State pockets from the countryside north of the city, the SDF statement said. It did not say when the assault on Raqqa itself would begin. “We aim to liberate dozens of villages in the Wadi Jallab area and the northern countryside and clear the last obstacles in front of us to pave the way for the operation to liberate Raqqa city”, it added.

Among the victims young people and children were detected. Opposition groups and western media had implicated President Assad in the incident while the Syrian government had totally given up its chemical weapons under UN control and confirmation.

Concerning the Kingdom’s long-term rejection of terrorism in all forms, the Saudi Cabinet on Monday condemned the use of chemical attack in Syria committed by the Syrian regime. The Cabinet also expressed all its support to the US military operation against selected targets in Syria. The Kingdom also lauded the Arab Coalition’s efforts to support the restoration in Yemen and to provide humanitarian aid through King Salman Center for Humanitarian and Relief Aids. Moreover the Cabinet appreciated King’s efforts to unify Arab and Muslim ranks in facing the difficult conditions of the Arab and Islamic countries. In fine the Cabinet approved a series of decisions.

Tillerson heads to Moscow carrying Western call for Russia to abandon Assad

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson carried a message from world powers to Moscow on Tuesday denouncing Russian support for Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, as the Trump administration took on America’s traditional mantle as leader of a unified West. Tillerson flew on the administration’s first cabinet mission to Russia after meeting foreign ministers from the Group of Seven advanced economies and Middle Eastern allies in Italy. They endorsed a joint call for Russia to abandon Assad. The administration of President Donald Trump, which came to power in January calling for warmer ties with Russia, was thrust into confrontation with Moscow last week when a poison gas attack in northern Syria killed 87 people.

The USS Carl Vinson-led aircraft carrier strike group has been sent to waters in the Western Pacific near the Korean Peninsula, the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Command and media reports said Sunday ahead of the anniversary of the birth of North Korea’s founder.
