Starting from 2016, Azerbaijan provides great state support to cotton-growing, said Azerbaijan’s President at the conference on development of cotton-growing, held in the country’s Saatli district on March 28. Aliyev also noted the great interest in cotton-growing among the citizens and added that this is a very important factor. He added that the cotton-growing will develop even more intensively in the future, it will gain even greater scope that will bring great benefits to both citizens and the country.

 

150 migrants drowned in the mediterranean sea

Nearly 150 migrants drowned after a rubber boat they were traveling in sank recently in the Mediterranean Sea, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said March 29, Reuters reported. A 16-year-old from Gambia, who was rescued by a Spanish frigate and transferred to an Italian coast guard ship, was the sole survivor of the ill-fated voyage. The boat departed from Sabratha, Libya, according to the young man. Rescuers have picked up more than 1,100 migrants in the Mediterranean over the past two days, according to Italy’s coast guard. Almost 600 people have died attempting the perilous voyage across the sea so far in 2017, the IOM said. At least 5,000 people are estimated to have died while attempting the crossing last year, according to the U.N. refugee agency.

Some 130 illegal rifles and 30 pistols were discovered during a raid on a shop selling circumcision clothes in Istanbul’s Bayrampaşa district late on March 27. Bayrampaşa police found unlicensed pump rifles when carrying out examinations on weapons vendors in the district. The police then tracked down the owner of the vendor and determined that illegal arms sales were occurring. After two months of technical and physical surveillance, police staged an operation on a shop selling circumcision clothes late on March 27, seizing 130 rifles and 30 pistols.

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said Monday it was too early to assess results of the fifth round of the Geneva talks on Syria. Gatilov’s remarks came upon his arrival to Geneva accompanied by Sergey Vershinin, the Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry. He is expected to hold two meetings with the official delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic and representatives of “Moscow platform” opposition on Tuesday and a meeting with al-Riyadh opposition delegation on Wednesday.

Arab Coalition: Houthi rockets smuggled through Yemen port to bomb saudi cities

The coalition Command to Support the Legitimacy in Yemen said today in a statement that Saudi border cities were targeted by Houthi militias with smuggled rockets through the port of Al-Hodeidah. The Command added that the Coalition air forces targeted immediately the launching sites and that the Royal Saudi air force intercepted four ballistic missiles launched towards the cities of KhamisMushayt and Abha and they destroyed them without causing any damage. In fine the coalition said these actions are the strongest evidence of the continued smuggling of weapons to Yemen especially from the port of Hodeidah.

The Cabinet also authorized the Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss with Norway a general agreement for cooperation between the Saudi and Norwegian governments and approved the establishment of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Guatemala.

Boko Haram attacks Borno communities, kidnaps 10 people

Boko Haram members allegedly attacked communities in Konduga local Government, Borno State, and kidnapped 10 people. Ibrahim Abdullahi ( Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps) declared the terrorists invaded Konduga and abducted four women and six youths. MrAbdullahi told the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri on tuesday that many other villages were invaded too, because the insurgents are looking for more youths to recruite to sustain their fight in the state, since they have been effectively decimated by the Nigerian military. This is a clarion call to Nigerians to be on the alert at all times and always report any suspicious activities around them to the security agencies, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are desperate to return to their liberated communities should desist from living in areas that are not properly secured by armed personnel.Millions of people have been displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency since 2009, while about 100,000 have been killed, according to official estimates. Hundreds of people including scores of female secondary school students kidnapped in 2014 from their school in Chibok, Borno State, are still being held by the Boko Haram.
