Police arrest 28 for critical social media posts in nationwide crackdown

Police have arrested an estimated 28 activists and young members of several political parties in a sweeping security crackdown across several governorates. According to rights lawyer Khaled Ali the arrests took place over 10 governorates, with charges relating to the sharing of posts critical of the government on social networking sites, particularly Facebook. According to opposition, and Human Right protection’s organisation it is an other attempt to speech freedom in the country. The arrests come as Parliament is discussing a bill to further criminalize criticism of the president or comments deemed insulting to the Egyptian state. Rights organizations have called nationwide campaign targeting political activists an attempt by the state to further consolidate its powers and to curtail criticism.

Sudanese man allegedly killed by an Israeli teenager

A Sudanese man died on Sunday after suffering serious head injuries from an attack last Monday. Police arrested a 16-year-old suspect shortly after the attack and extended his remand on Sunday until Tuesday. The victim, Babiker Abdo Adam Ali, 38, was found badly beaten with a sharp object in Petah Tikva on November 14. The circumstances and motivations of the murder are still murky; police are searching for additional suspects in the vicious attack and have declined to provide any details on a possible motivation.

Seoul protests against President Park Geun-hye are peaceful

The hundreds of thousands of South Koreans who have taken to the streets of Seoul in protest against President Park Geun-hye have done so peacefully in what one long-term resident described as an almost “carnival atmosphere.” Police on the streets have politely guided mothers with children in pushchairs and whole families have joined the candle-lit protests to demand the impeachment or otherwise removal of the president.

Public Secutiry Minister doesn’t expect to see violence during the evacuation of the Amona outpost

On Monday, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said he was not expecting that the court-ordered evacuation of the Amona outpost by the end of the year would see violence on the part of the settlers living there. Erdan later acknowledged that the legislation alone may not avert the demolition, but said in such a case he has “no doubt” the police will do their job and the government will comply with the court order. The Minister said he is familiar with the Amona residents and “the majority or all are law-abiding and will not lift a hand against a policeman.”

Two suicide bombers killed themselves at police checkpoint, a third arrested

Two suicide bombers in the early hours of Friday killed themselves at a police checkpoint near the Federal High Court Complex in Maiduguri, after police officers on guard tried to stop them from advancing towards their post. A third suicide bomber was arrested. Three of them – two females and a male – were spotted creeping in the dark towards the police post at about 3.50 a.m. Another set of twin blasts were heard at about 8 a.m., but the details are yet to be ascertained.

Armed clashes in Nablus: woman killed and 5 Palestinian police officers wounded

According to Palestinian Center for Human Rights’s investigations, at approximately 06:00 on Wednesday, 16 November 2016, an armed group attacked Palestinian security officers from the National Security Service, Police and Special Units, which is always present in Daraj al-Aqaba area in Nablus’ Old City, north of the West Bank. Violent clashes erupted between the two parties, due to which 5 Palestinian police officers were wounded. At approximately 06:30, the clashes intensified and, as a result, a bullet penetrated a window of a house belonging to Hilda Bassam al-Osta (38). The bullet hit Hilda in the chest, due to which she died even before she was taken to hospital.

Former National Security Council member arrested by police

On Tuesday, police remanded a former senior member of the National Security Council on suspicion of bribery offences, moneylaundering, breach of trust and fraud. Another suspect was also remanded on suspicion of involvement in the offences. The senior official promoted the affairs of a private businessman living abroad while serving in his previous role. In return he received bribes including favors and funds which were transferred to him or his family without reporting his connection to the businessman as required.

Suicide bomber attacked a German consulate in Afghanistan

A suicide bomber has rammed a truck into a German consulate in Afghanistan, killing at least six civilians and wounding 120, officials said. Gunman attacked the building after the blast, in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, battling with German and Afghan forces. The Taliban said it carried out the attack in retaliation for air strikes last week in Kunduz province. Local police said at least one suspect had been arrested in connection with the bombing.

Bomb ridde next to Mishtara checkpoint safely detonated by Israeli Police

Palestinian security passed on information to Israeli forces on a large bomb that they suspect was targeting the IDF in the Hebron area, Palestinian security sources said Sunday. The bomb, made up of an explosive charge attached to a large gas canister, was hidden next to the Mishtara checkpoint on the outskirts of the southern West Bank city. The bomb was found on the side of the checkpoint controlled by Palestinian security. It was safely detonated by sappers from the Israel Police bomb squad on Friday night, Israeli officials confirmed.

Three wounded in terror attack south of Jerusalem

Three Israelis were lightly wounded on Sunday when an Arab terrorist rammed into a group of Border Police officers near the village of Beit Ummar in the Gush Etzion area south of Jerusalem. The terrorist responsible for the attack was shot and neutralized by Israeli forces at the scene. He later died of his injuries.

All three of the wounded Border Police officers were treated at the scene by army paramedics and MDA emergency responders. They were subsequently evacuated to a local hospital.
