First International Conference of the Kurds in Tokyo.

The media announced on 1st of May, decisions being made for the first international conference of Kurds in the Japanese capital, Tokyo. The conference confirmed the decisions, with the participation of a number of Kurdish political figures from the four parts of Kurdistan, along with Japanese politicians, which is :

– In order not to diminish the role of the forces fighting against Daesh and other terrorist groups, a no-fly zone should be declared in Rouge-Ava; Western Kurdistan.

– The need to recognize the project of Federal Northern Syria, which will serve to solve the Syrian crisis.

– In the South, the people will decide their destiny through the referendum.

– Stop the arrests of members of the Kurdish political movement in northern Kurdistan, by the government of the Justice and Development Party.

– Japan must assume its responsibilities, so that the AKP will return from its policies against the Kurdish movement and solve the Kurdish issue through democratic political methods.

– The Japanese government should provide assistance to the four parts of Kurdistan.

– Because of the political risks in Turkey, the Kurdish issue turned its attention to Japan to resolve this issue.

 

Iraqi counter-terrorism forces regain another neighbourhood in Mosul .

The commander of the Nineveh Liberation Operation, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, said the army raised the Iraqi flag over buildings in al-Anbar neighborhood, inflicting “huge loss” to the ultra-hardline group. The 9th Division of the Iraqi army secured the south bank of the Tigris River that bisects the city of Mosul, Nineveh Operation. Command said.According to Yarallah, the villages of Shweitah, Tal al-Asfour and al-Sabouniya were regained. Iraqi forces are making progress in their offensive to expel ISIS from Mosul but face a “very complicated” urban battle as the militants hide in mosques, homes and hospitals, a U.S. general told Reuters. Iraqi troops pounded ISIS positions in Mosul’s Old City  as they continued their push to seize control of the strategic al-Nuri Mosque. Close-quarters fighting in the area is focused on the Old City surrounding the mosque, where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi proclaimed a caliphate nearly three years ago across territory controlled by the group in both Iraq and Syria

Five suicide bombers kill at least 22 in Iraqi city of Tikrit.

Islamic militants unleashed multiple suicide attacks in the city of Tikrit, north of Baghdad, killing at least 22 people, a provincial official said on Wednesday. Five suicide bombers on foot targeted a police patrol and broke into a police officer’s house in Tikrit’s al-Zihoor neighborhood, according to a Salahuddin provincial council member, Ahmed al-Karim. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombings but Islamic State militants have carried out scores of similar attacks to detract from the fighting in Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city. The Sunni extremist group frequently targets Iraqi security forces and civilians in urban areas.Iraqi forces drove out ISIS militants from Tikrit in April 2015. Since then, IS militants have launched a number of big attacks in and around Tikrit, located about 80 miles (130 kilometers) north of Baghdad.

 

 

The withdrawal of Peshmerga from the area of Mosul must be not negotiable

The Chief of Staff of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, Lieutenant General Jamal Mohamed, announced on Thursday, that the Peshmerga forces will not withdraw from the areas that they liberated from the Islamic State, before the start of the battle to liberate Mosul. “Peshmerga forces will not withdraw from the areas that they liberated before October 10, 2016 (the start of the battle to liberate the city of Mosul)” and added “Peshmerga sacrificed nearly 2000 martyrs and 12 thousand casualties in the war against the Islamic State. The withdrawal of Peshmerga from these areas is not negotiable”, Mohamed also pointed out to the importance of preparing new agreement between Erbil and Baghdad, after liberating Mosul, on the situation of the city that includes more than 300 thousand Kurdish persons.This could become a critic situation.

Iraqi forces aim to secure Mosul bridge, link up to east bank

U.S.-backed Iraqi forces pushed deeper into western Mosul on Sunday, aiming to capture a bridge across the Tigris which would link the city’s government-held eastern bank with the ongoing offensive against remaining militants in the west.All were damaged in strikes by the U.S.-led air coalition, and later by Islamic State fighters trying to seal off the western bank still under their control). The Colonel Falah al-Wabdan of the Interior Ministry’s Rapid Response unit have said that the bridge is very important: The bridge is about 400 meters away. By the end of the day you will hear that our forces have arrived (there).”, this is his prognostication. Army engineers plan to rehabilitate the bridge to allow troops to bring in reinforcements and supplies directly from the eastern side.
