According to Palestinian Center for Human Rights’s investigations, at approximately 06:00 on Wednesday, 16 November 2016, an armed group attacked Palestinian security officers from the National Security Service, Police and Special Units, which is always present in Daraj al-Aqaba area in Nablus’ Old City, north of the West Bank. Violent clashes erupted between the two parties, due to which 5 Palestinian police officers were wounded. At approximately 06:30, the clashes intensified and, as a result, a bullet penetrated a window of a house belonging to Hilda Bassam al-Osta (38). The bullet hit Hilda in the chest, due to which she died even before she was taken to hospital.
On Wednesday, the Knesset approved a preliminary reading of the Regulation Law seeking to normalize the status of Judea and Samaria communities and protect them from future legal entanglements.
According to the proposed bill, if nobody can prove ownership over such contested plots, they are to be listed under the name of the appointee over government property in Judea and Samaria. On the other hand, if one can prove ownership, the land will be confiscated and transferred to the government appointee, and the man who proved ownership will be eligible to use the land or an alternative plot. The confiscation will be in force until which time the State decides on the status of the area and the Jewish settlement within it. Further, until the end of proceedings, enforcement will be suspended with respect to structures in those communities.
The Russian military says it has evidences of the use of chemical weapons by rebels in Syria’s besieged city of Aleppo. “Experts from the Russian Defense Ministry have found unexploded artillery ammunition belonging to terrorists that contains toxic substances,” the military said in a statement on November 11.
Central Benghazi is calm again after clashes yesterday between Libyan National Army (LNA) forces and militants in the central districts of Sabri and Suq Al-Hout. Clashes also continued in Ganfouda. The LNA used both air and ground attacks to pound the militants’ positions. According to a LNA source, one of the opposition’s commanders was killed in Sabri. He named him as Belgasem Al Shagabi. There has been no independent confirmation of this.
Germany and the Palestinian Authority signed on Wednesday two financial and technical cooperation agreements that commit Germany to provide 49 million euros to several social development and economic projects, according to a press release by the Palestinian Foreign Ministry. It said the agreements, signed by Foreign Minister Riyad Malki and the German Representative to the Palestinian areas, Peter Beerwerth, will go to projects such as water desalination, education, development and job creation for youth.
