A senior American diplomat has reassured the Kingdom about America’s continuing commitment to strong and robust relations regardless of the changes one may see after the US administration is led by Donald Trump. Christopher Henzel, deputy chief of mission at the Riyadh-based US Embassy, said that the Saudi-US partnership “will remain strong.” “This partnership is driven by the interests of both countries, and is sustained by the dense network of relationships and cooperation that has developed over the past 80 years,” said Henzel, while speaking during an election night reception hosted by the US Embassy here on Tuesday.

The five largest Russian banks defended themselves from cyberattacks

On Thursday, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Russia Sergey Shvetsov said that five largest Russian banks, which had been under cyberattacks for the past two days, managed to defend themselves.  The attack began on Tuesday afternoon, and continued for two days straight, according to a source close to Russia’s Central Bank quoted by RIA Novosti. The initial attack was rather massive and its power intensified over the course of the day. The power of the attacks peaked at 660 thousands of requests per second. Some of the banks were attacked repeatedly.  The attack came from a wide-scale botnet involving at least 24,000 computers, located in 30 countries. “Sberbank” and “Alfabank” two of the largest Russian bank, confirmed the attack to their server.

Houthi militas’ attack repelled by Saudi forces

On Wednesday, Saudi forces stationed on the southern border repelled an attack by Houthi militias and forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The attack targeted Al-Dood Mountain in the Al-Khobah area. Saudi forces launched a counterattack that resulted in the death of at least 15 Houthi fighters and the capture of four others by the Parachute Brigade. Dozens of militiamen fled the battleground, abandoning their weapons.

According to Ukranian Defence Ministry none of its employees has been detained in Crimea

On Thursday, the Leninsky District court of the Crimean city of Sevastopol arrested three suspected members of a subversive group that had allegedly plotted acts of sabotage at Crimea’s military facilities. According to a statement published by Federal Security Service, on 9th of  November, the Federal Security Service detained members of a terrorist group deployed by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate, which planned sabotage attacks on Crimea’s military facilities and critical civilian infrastructure. The service claimed that powerful explosive devices, weapons and rounds of ammunition, means of special communications and also maps of facilities had been seized from the detained persons. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has denied that any of its employees had been detained by Russia’s Federal Security Service in Crimea. Commenting on the thwarted attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Ukrainian authorities resorted to practicing terrorism instead of seeking peaceful solution to the crisis, adding that German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande were notified of the “gross provocation” orchestrated by Kiev.

6,000 gunmen are trying to force the corridor towards eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo

On Thursday, during a press briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova reported that about 6,000 gunmen are trying to fight their way  towards eastern Aleppo. According to Russian authorities, in Aleppo, Jihadists are attacking from southwest continuing their attempts to force the corridor towards eastern neighborhoods of the city. The tactical direction carried out by Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (former Jabhat al-Nusra) through the central headquarters. Zakharova also asserted that the Russian-US agreement on Syria remains in force and no one has abolished it and the work needs to be continued.

Niger Delta Avengers give 7 days to Federal Government and NUPENG to make all oil companies evacuate

The Niger Delta militant group known as Niger Delta Avengers under the leadership of Adaka Boro has vow to go on rampage in seven days. The group in a statement signed by General Edmos Ayayeibo Spokesperson for Adaka boro Avengers, on Thursday, said they gave the Federal Government and NUPENG seven days to immediately ask all multinational oil companies operating in the Niger Delta region to evacuate our territory. As failure to do so will lead to untold calamity on staff and on oil and gas installations.

$1.2 billion invested by Iran in Azerbaijan's economy

Iranian investments in Azerbaijan’s economy amounted to almost $1.2 billion, $145 million of which were invested in the country’s non-oil sector, Head of Azerbaijan Export and Investments Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) Rufat Mammadov said. He made the remarks Nov. 10 at the “Investment opportunities of Azerbaijan and Iran” conference in Baku.

Another oil pipeline blown up by Nigerian militants

Nigerian militants say they have blown up again an oil pipeline carrying crude for export from Shell’s Forcados terminal in the country’s south. It’s the third attack in eight days on the Trans Forcados pipeline network. Militants and community leaders want development and a bigger share of revenues from oil that has massively polluted the southern Niger Delta. The Niger Delta Avengers said the Tuesday night’s bombing is to reinforce warnings for oil companies to desist from repairing attacked installations.

Moscow on the International community’s efforts

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed on Thursday that the West seeks to prevent attacking Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization in Syria to take advantage of it. During a press conference with Benin’s foreign minister in Moscow, Lavrov said that the UN Security Council recently condemned the use of civilians as human shields by ISIS in the Iraqi city of Mosul but it didn’t do the same thing against the practices of Jabhat al-Nusra in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo. The Russian Minister pointed out that Moscow is concerned that the international community’s efforts regarding overcoming the crises in Syria, Iraq and other areas should be transparent, fair and not accompanied with attempts to achieve certain geopolitical goals.
