Blast in Syria killed a US service member

A U.S. service member has died after being wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in northern Syria, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on November 24, marking the first time a member of the U.S. military has been killed in the current conflict in the war-torn country. The man was wounded by the explosion in the vicinity of Ayn Issa 50 km far from Raqqa, Lieutenant General Stephen Townsend, commander of the U.S.-led coalition fighting the Islamic State group said.

Russia is ready to take part in the Normandy Quartet meeting

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey lavorv, during a press conference, affirmed that  Russia is ready to take part in a new Normandy Quartet (Russia, Germany, France, Ukraine) meeting scheduled for November 29, provided it will not be another pointless meeting. On Wednesday, German top diplomat Frank Walter Steinmeier, while addressing the Bundestag (German Parliament), said that Germany and France had plans to arrange a Normandy Quartet ministerial meeting in Belarus’s capital of Minsk on November 29. On 23rd of November, the members of Contact Group ( Ukraine, Russian federation, Donetsk’s  People Republic and Lugansk’s People republic) met during a meeting, but they didn’t reach any positive result.  The parties, in particular, needs to agree on the ways to put into effect the law on the special status of Donbass, ensure that the parties to the conflict take simultaneous steps in the security sphere while the Ukrainian authorities implement political reforms in accordance with the Minsk agreements.

Federal Security Service: ex-member of Russian Fleet detained in Crimea

According to Federal Security Service, a former service member of the Russian Black Sea Fleet has been detained in Crimea on suspicion of gathering intelligence on the fleet’s activities and passing state secrets to Ukraine. A source to FSB (Federal Security Service) affirmed that on November 22, Russia’s Federal Security Service detained a former officer of the Black Sea Fleet headquarters, reserves Captain II rank Leonid Parkhomenko. The FSB said it opened a high treason case under the Russian Criminal Code and is conducting an investigation.  Early on Monday, Russia’s Defense Ministry said the Ukrainian Security Service officers had abducted Russian contract servicemen in Crimea , Maxim Odintsov and Alexander Baranov, and took them to Ukraine’s Nikolayev Region.

EU resolution against Russian media: if implemented Moscow will take retaliatory measures

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed that if an EU resolution against the Russian media is implemented, Moscow will take retaliatory measures. Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, branded the document as paranoia and part of the ongoing demonization of Russia, adding that it is filled with made-up messages, myths, and she also said that it reflects the ideology which has been cultivated towards Russia recently. On Wednesday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution aimed at combating propaganda of third countries, including Russia. The resolution mentions Russian TV channel RT, Sputnik agency, Russkiy Mir (or Russian World) Foundation and the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo).

Azerbaijan: bilateral agreement with Russia over pension and migration

Azerbaijan and Russia will sign two bilateral agreements on cooperation in the spheres of pension provision and labor migration, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Azerbaijan’s Population Salim Muslimov said on Nov. 24 at a meeting with representatives of Russia’s Social Insurance Fund in Baku. The Minister said that Azerbaijan is the only country in the CIS, which has no bilateral agreement with Russia on pension provision.

Aleppo: Syrian rebels agreed to aid delivery and medical evacuations

Syrian rebels in besieged east Aleppo have agreed to a U.N. plan for aid delivery and medical evacuations, but the United Nations is awaiting a green light from Russia and the Syrian government, humanitarian adviser Jan Egeland said on Thursday. “We do now have written approval in principle by the armed opposition groups of east Aleppo,” he told reporters, specifying that he was referring to rebels with whom the U.N. is in contact – and do not include former Nusra Front militants. “We have verbal support also from the Russian Federation on our four-point plan. We need written support and we need unconditional support also from Russia and we are still waiting for the answer from the government of Syria”, he added.

Saudi Ambassador visits the UK to discuss relief work and humanitarian aid

At the British Ministry of International Development, Saudi Ambassador to Britain Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf and Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, KSRelief general supervisor, on Monday met with British government and nongovernment relief agencies to discuss about humanitarian activities in various countries. Al-Rabeeah said that the visit “comes as a confirmation of the pioneering role of Saudi Arabia in the area of relief and humanitarian aid under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman”. He also emphasized the leading role being played by Saudi Arabia in relief work and humanitarian aid across the world, particularly in Yemen.

Saudi aggression: international prohibited weapons used on Saada province

Saudi aggression fighter jets waged strikes using international prohibited weapons on Saada province overnight, a security official told Saba on Thursday. The planes fired cluster bombs on al-Dhaher district and Haydan district, causing heavy losses, damaging citizens’ houses and burning farms. Officials and residents condemned the US-Saudi aggression’s using world-banned bombs against civilians.

Army and popular forces attacked Saudi soldiers in Jizan, Najran and Asir.

The missile and artillery units of the army and popular forces fired on gatherings and sites of Saudi soldiers in Jizan, Najran and Asir provinces. In Jizan, the missile forces fired on the the posts where Saudi soldiers were gathering in Jalah military center, burning the posts. The same happened in Najran where the rocketry units fired missiles on military posts in al-Sudays, hitting the targets directly.  In Asir, the artillery units bombarded the Saudi groups of soldiers in Kamahat al-Sheihk military sites.

Suspension of accession talks with Turkey: a complex procedure

The European Parliament’s decision to call on the European Commission to freeze accession talks with Turkey is important as it marks a first in the overall enlargement process of the bloc but is unlikely to be implemented due to a complex procedure. When Turkey and the European Union agreed on starting full membership talks in 2005, they also adopted a framework to regulate the technicalities of the Ankara-Brussels negotiations.
