President Béji Caid Essebsi received, on Monday at Carthage Palace, Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Houcine Abassi, according to a statement released by the Presidency of the Republic. The meeting turned on the country’s social situation and the dispute over wage increases, Abassi told reporters. The last meeting between the President of the Republic and the Secretary General of the UGTT dates back to last Saturday. This series of meetings aims to overcome the dispute between the government that wants to postpone the payment of salary increases in the public service and the UGTT which demands compliance with the agreements concluded.
