Israeli Patriot missile downs Syrian drone over Golan heights.

An Israeli Patriot missile shot down a Syrian drone over the Golan. The incident took place in the early evening hours and according to military officials, the drone was most likely on a surveillance mission against Syrian rebels based near the border and breached Israel’s airspace accidentally. Another defense official told that the incident was not necessarily linked to the fact that in the early hours of Thursday morning Israeli fighter jets struck a weapons supply depot operated by Hezbollah near Damascus International Airport. The strike targeted Iranian weapons shipped into Syria via commercial and military cargo planes. In comments in an interview with Venezuelan television carried by the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency, Assad said Israel was supporting terrorists with military strikes in Syria, but made no direct mention of Thursday’s incident. He further said his government was in talks with Russia to purchase the “most advanced” anti-missile defense system “that will counter the American and Israeli threats. It’s only natural we should have such systems.”. Given the history of the Israeli regime, we see that they had [pursued] nothing but war and bloodshed. Therefore, this regime must be completely disarmed. “And only after this regime would be completely eliminated, we can restore security and peace”, he said.

 

Iranian, Russian and Syrian defense ministers meet in Moscow

Second rounds of trilateral meetings between Iranian, Russian and Syrian defense ministers was held in Moscow on the sidelines of the 6th Conference on International Security. During the meeting, Hossein Dehqan, Sergey Shoygu and Fahd Jassem al-Freij underlined convergence among Tehran, Moscow and Damascus against terrorism. They discussed latest field developments in Syria and explored avenues for fighting against terrorism. The three defense minister also underlined continuation of joint full-scale action to eliminate roots of insecurity and violence in the region. They condemned recent US attack against an airfield in Syria, noting that such treachery attacks in support of terrorists should be halted. They stressed joint decisive action against terrorists to prevent terrorist’s reinforcement and to help establishment of peace in the war-torn region. The first round of the trilateral talks was held in Tehran in 2016.

Tripoli and Moscow continue their cooperation after official Al-Serraj visit to Moscow. The President of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord Fayez Al-Serraj on Tuesday met at the Council’s headquarters here the Russian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bugdanov the personal envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This visit aims to continue the impulsion created by Al-Serraj visit to Moscow. Russia told to Libya, that their relations will go back to the former level soon. Both countries had been agreed on an increasing of cooperation between both, and also a Russian help in front of the escalation of violences in Libya.

Russia says US airstrike on Syria damages prospects of peace settlement

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the airstrike that the United States launched at a Syrian military base earlier this month damages the prospects of a political settlement for the war-torn country. Russia and Egypt seems to create really strong ties, after the official visit of a Russian delegation in Egypt two weeks ago, a new meeting had been previous. The Egyptian and Russian foreign ministers agreed in a phonecall on Friday to meet in Cairo at the end of May, along with the two countries’ defence ministers, an Egyptian ministry spokesman announced. According to first informations, during the phonecall, they evoked their bilateral relations, the current situation in Syria and in Lybia. This meeting will increase again Egypt-Russian relationship.

Putin linked think tank drew up plan to sway 2016 US elections

A Russian government think tank controlled by Vladimir Putin developed a plan to swing the 2016 U.S. presidential election to Donald Trump and undermine voters’ faith in the American electoral system, three current and four former U.S. officials told Reuters. They described two confidential documents from the think tank as providing the framework and rationale for what U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded was an intensive effort by Russia to interfere with the Nov. 8 election. U.S. intelligence officials acquired the documents, which were prepared by the Moscow-based Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, after the election.

U.N. Syria envoy to meet Russian minister on Monday

Russia ready to broker solution to Libya’s political conflict.

Russia is still involved in Libyan peace process, it try to be a leader of Libyan reconciliation. Indeed, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, met on Tuesday with a delegation of officials from Libya’s Misurata city in Moscow. He expressed that “the Russian side stressed the necessity to establish inclusive intra-Libyan dialogue with involvement of representatives of main political forces, tribal groups and the country’s regions in order to create nationwide power structures, including army and police that are ready to ensure security and order and to resist terrorist threats in an effective way”. So, Russian deputy ensure the necessity to create a dialogue between forces in Libya, in despite of the new conflictual time in the country.

 

Terms of Russia – Egypt NPP Contract Signing Depend on Cairo

The dialogue had been fructify; because the terms of signing the Russian-Egyptian comprehensive contract for the construction of Egypt’s first Dabaa nuclear power plant depend on Cairo, Moscow is ready for signing now, the general director of the Rosatom state corporation, Alexey Likhachev, told on Wednesday. Likhachev is waiting Egyptian agreement to launch the program.
