Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces cautioned the enemies, the US in particular, against the severe damage they will have to suffer in case of a naval warfare against Iran. The US government has continuously made threats against Iran since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, and those threats have been mainly “sea-based”, Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said on Thursday, in an address to a national conference on speedboats, held in Tehran’s Malek-Ashtar University of Technology. Iran’s Enemies have “shaped massive forces at sea” and put great efforts into protecting them, but they are well aware that “they are vulnerable in actual battlefield and will suffer damages and heavy losses” if they take action against Iran, the senior commander said. Iran’s deterrent capabilities have made the adversaries realize that “the costs of a naval battle with the Islamic Republic of Iran would outstrip its benefits”, he underlined. Major General Baqeri further described the speedboats in possession of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy as a “miracle”, saying the homegrown vessels have advanced commensurate with the threats.
A bipartisan group of US senators in Congress on Thursday introduced a bill that would impose tighter sanctions against Iran over its ballistic missile tests and other non-nuclear activities. The legislation would set mandatory sanctions for anyone involved with Iran’s missile program and those who trade with them. It would also apply sanctions to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). Iran, however, maintains that none of its missiles have been designed to be capable of carrying nuclear warheads, because nuclear weapons have basically no place in the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine. Iranian officials have underlined that the country will continue with its missile activity and that Tehran needs no permission from any country for enhancing its defense capabilities.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani addressed Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a letter, following the Leader’s special emphasis on ‘domestic production’ and ‘creation of more job opportunities’ in the new Iranian year. President Rouhani went to note that the first cabinet meeting in the new year will be focused on national labor division aimed at creating a leap in domestic production and increasing employment.
The annual event, dubbed the 6th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada (Uprising) held in solidarity with the people of Palestine wrapped up in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Feb 22. The Palestine Intifada conference conveyed an important message to the world; the manifestation of which was echoed in the remarks made by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The president said that once again the Palestine issue ‘brought us together’ to speak of a deep and painful scar that has annoyed the global community conscience and the Muslim world body. He noted that Palestine is not the issue of an ethnic group or nation, rather it is the injustice and denial of international rights and inefficiency of international organizations.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei described feeling or concession to weakness in any sphere as a grave mistake that encourages the enemy to take action against the country. “It is an axiom that feeling weakness would encourage the enemy to launch an attack, If you want to dissuade the enemy from onslaught, we should avoid expressing the feeling of weakness, and (should) exhibit the numerous strong points we have”, Imam Khamenei underscored. He warns against threat in the cultural and political fields as well, Ayatollah Khamenei noted, “In big economic challenge that the country is now facing with, the mistake that has been made by some people was the expression of weakness in the economic field: And, accordingly, the enemy found that it can exert pressure in that area, and did mount pressure”.
