Iraqi counter-terrorism forces regain another neighbourhood in Mosul .
The commander of the Nineveh Liberation Operation, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, said the army raised the Iraqi flag over buildings in al-Anbar neighborhood, inflicting “huge loss” to the ultra-hardline group. The 9th Division of the Iraqi army secured the south bank of the Tigris River that bisects the city of Mosul, Nineveh Operation. Command said.According to Yarallah, the villages of Shweitah, Tal al-Asfour and al-Sabouniya were regained. Iraqi forces are making progress in their offensive to expel ISIS from Mosul but face a “very complicated” urban battle as the militants hide in mosques, homes and hospitals, a U.S. general told Reuters. Iraqi troops pounded ISIS positions in Mosul’s Old City as they continued their push to seize control of the strategic al-Nuri Mosque. Close-quarters fighting in the area is focused on the Old City surrounding the mosque, where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi proclaimed a caliphate nearly three years ago across territory controlled by the group in both Iraq and Syria
