President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today received EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Herbert Salber. Recalling his visit to Belgium, President Ilham Aliyev noted the useful meetings and discussions held within this visit. Stressing that during this visit it was launched negotiations on a new agreement between EU and Azerbaijan, the head of state named it as an important step to develop bilateral cooperation even more, expressed hope the works would be continued actively and end in time. The president and EU representative had comprehensive exchange of views about the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, the situation on the contact line and current state of negotiations for solution to the problem and prospects.
The economic development was ensured, social problems were resolved, and the military build-up was carried out successfully in Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2017, said President Ilham Aliyev. The president made the remarks at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of socioeconomic development in the first quarter of 2017 and future tasks. “The international situation remains tense. Unfortunately, conflicts are going on, new risks are emerging. All necessary measures are being taken to ensure
safety in Azerbaijan”, added Aliyev.
The April battles are a glorious military victory showing the power of the Azerbaijani state, people and army, said Azerbaijan’s President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. He made the remarks at a meeting with a group of servicemen on the anniversary of the April victory of the Azerbaijani army. These battles show that the Azerbaijani people and state will never reconcile to the occupation, and will restore Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity at all costs, he noted, and the professionalism of the Azerbaijani army. He added that the April battles should be included in military textbooks.
Azerbaijan, as one of the key countries in Heart of Asia – Istanbul process, and as Afghanistan’s close partner, supported this process and continues to play an important role in working in different areas, said Hekmat Khalil Karzai, deputy foreign minister of Afghanistan.He was addressing a meeting of senior officials of the Heart of Asia – Istanbul process member countries in Baku March 17. He expressed hope that the meeting of foreign ministers of the Istanbul Process member countries, which is planned to be held in Baku soon, will yield positive results in the promotion of this process and significant results will be achieved in restoring Afghanistan’s infrastructure, as well as peace and stability in the country.
Fourteen people have been released from the women’s prison No.4 in Azerbaijan upon the pardon order signed by the country’s president on March 16. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on March 16 pardoning 423 people. Under the order, 412 people, sentenced to imprisonment, have been freed from serving the remainder of their prison sentences.
