Olusegun Obasanjo, former Nigerian president, has said at the convention of Victory Life Bible Church International, that the church activities are contribuiting to cases of corruption. Mr Obasanjo, in a speech intitled “the role of the Church in the fight against corruption in Nigeria”, said: “If the Church, as an institution, does not take bribe or get involved in other corrupt practice, the behaviour of some of our men of God leaves much to be desired”. In the speech he accused those man who not only accept gifts offred from anybody ( giving the impression that anything is acceptable) but also venerate every sources of wealth, claiming that now is time to stand up against corruption. Mr Obansajo was president between 1999 and 2007, took a bold step to burb corruption durign his administration, saying that fighting corruption was a priority for him. He furter said that the discovery of oil and natural gas were two events that increased corrupt practices in the country.
