The creation of a regional economic zone (REA) starts the first steps

The creation of a Regional Economic Zone in the Balkans has begun to be concretized. The first step is the recognition of Authorized Economic Operators among CEFTA (Central European Free Trade Agreement) member countries, which will bring more convenience to trade exchanges between countries.

To discuss this plan, was held a meeting in Tirana attended by representatives of the dogaphorical administration of CEFTA member countries. General Director of Customs, Belinda Ikonomi, praised the organization of this meeting as a continuation of regional cooperation, in the framework of the engagement undertaken at the recent “Berlin Process” summit, held in Trieste in July 2017, where the Prime Ministers of the Balkan countries expressed strong determination to work together to create a Regional Economic Zone (REA).

Since the first pillar of the action plan for the further advancement of regional trade integration includes a number of actions aimed at accelerating cross-border procedure in accordance with the additional protocol of CEFTA, Ikonomi informed that in Albania this document has already passed on all parliamentary committees and is epected to be approved by the Parliament.

Abdullah, prioritizing economic indexes

During the session of executive committee for development of private sector, Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah said that Afghanistan should seek ways for prioritizing of economic indexes and solving of problems before private sector. Dr. Abdullah said there were eye-catching growth of private sector and small entrepreneurships as well as production and imports, adding more works needed to improve and accelerate the process. Dr. Abdullah told the officials to pay attentions to boosting of imports and exports as well as growth of domestic production and ways to ease transportation of goods. He added to focus on prevention of time elapsing during security check of the importing and exporting goods. Minister of Commerce and Industries held the session on achievements, challenges and progress of the Executive Committee on development of private sector, adding 10 documents were prepared to ease the process of export and import of goods. The documents included acceleration of the security check process of goods, technical standard, custom license, license of entrepreneurship and transit, prepared in consultation with traders. World Bank representative to Kabul praised Chief Executive’s support of the private sector, saying the process would take time and require joint efforts. The Chief Executive also instructed the Ministry of Commerce and Industries to present the problems in Council of Ministers meeting, so that to be discussed in detail.

Civilian causalities in Kunduz air raid

The Afghan Defense Ministry says Monday’s attack by the government air force on a Taliban meeting in Dasht-i-Archi district of Kunduz province, killed at least 18 fighters, including a senior commanders of the group Quetta Shura member Mawlavi Baryal. The Defense Ministry’s Deputy Spokesman Mohammad Radmanish said that the Afghan Air Force did not target civilians but Taliban members that opened fire on Afghan air force helicopters and then on civilians after the airstrike. Radmanish showed photographs and aerial footage of the targeted area, saying that people photographed were Taliban leaders and fighters. During the attack, civilians, including children, lost their lives so the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) is investigating the incident amid reports of civilian casualties. UN said that UNAMA actively looking into disturbing reports of serious harm to civilians, adding that all parties have to respect the obligations to protect civilians from impact of armed conflict. The President’s office, meanwhile in a statement on Tuesday said that it has appointed a task team to investigate Monday’s airstrike in Dasht-e-Archi of Kunduz province. The assigned commission is headed by General Khudaidad Hazara, the Inspector General of the National Security Council, and include presidential advisors Tahir Safai and Sayed Sulaiman Hamid.

Foreign policy strategy of BiH adopted unanimously

The Presidency of BiH adopted the Strategy of the Foreign Policy of BiH for the period 2018-2023. This strategy provides guidelines for foreign policy on the basis of changes on a global, regional and local level. The strategy should determine a broad framework and guidelines for the work of relevant institutions of BiH in the domain of foreign policy. The pillars of the foreign policy of BiH are security and stability, economic prosperity, the protection of interests of citizens of BiH abroad and international legal cooperation and promotion of BiH in the world. These are based on the global, regional and local changes, the analysis of the current position of BiH in Europe and the world, as well as on political consensus on the future of BiH in international relations. Full membership in the European Union is one of the main strategic goals of the country. BiH, as a signatory of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the European Union and as a country that submitted a request for membership in the EU and responded to the European Commission’s Questionnaire, is striving to obtain candidate status as soon as possible. The continuation of activities in relation to NATO still represents the priority of BH institutions. Priority activities will be directed towards the activation and implementation of the MAP that will enable all subjects of defense in BiH to continue with activities in relation to NATO.

CAR: 33 villager kidnapped by LRA rebels

33 civil centrafricain has been abducted on Sunday near the city of Obo by the ugandan rebels of Lord Resistance Army (LRA). The abduction happened among 4:00 and 5:00 in the east of Obo’s area, in the tract to Bambouti, a border city near the South Sudan.

The LRA raids in the Prefecture of Mbomou, southeast of Central African Republic, has been at the basis for a joined operation for six years between the United States and Uganda to hunt down the leader of the LRA insurgents, Kony. Unsuccesfully until March 2017, the operation was abandoned.

China’s Xi tells Zimbabwe president they should write ‘new chapter’ in ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping told President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe that they should work towards a new chapter in ties, during the African leader’s first state visit to China since he seized power last year. Mnangagwa, who became president in November after a de facto military coup ended Robert Mugabe’s 37-year rule, has promised to rebuild his country’s devastated economy and re-engage with the international community.

Xi said China has been happy to see the economic reform policies that Mnangagwa put in place after the “peaceful, smooth” transfer of power. “I’m willing to work with Mr President to jointly map out our future cooperation and write a new chapter in China-Zimbabwe relations for the benefit of our two peoples” Xi said, during the meeting in Beijing.

In December, Zimbabwe signed a $ 153 million loan agreement with China to expand and renew its international airport in Harare in the attempt to attract investors and tourists, the first such deal under the new government.

China has growing interest in investing in Africa’s natural resources and has poured more than $100 billion into roads, railways, mines, powerlines and factories on the continent over the last decade. At the same time with his visit, Zimbabwe would attempt to tap China’s huge financial resources, technical expertise and modern technology in order to help revive the economy, Mnangagwa told.

In November of last year delegations from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia met in Cairo to approve a study by a French firm tasked with assessing the environmental and economic impact of the dam on downstream countries. But negotiations stalled. Now FM Shoukry will fly to Khartoum for talks with Sudanese and Ethiopian officials aimed at resolving the impasse over the hydroelectric dam Addis Ababa is building on a Nile tributary. Cairo fears that the dam will reduce the supply of Nile water. Ethiopia, which is the only one financing the dam, affirms that the project will not harm Egypt, while Sudan underlined that it will provide the country with energy and irrigation.

Iran’s Larijani slams ‘inhumane’ Israeli acts against Palestinians

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani strongly condemned the “criminal” and “inhumane” Israeli acts against peaceful Palestinian protesters on Land Day. “Such acts are the continuation of the Zionists’ repeated crimes (against Palestinians) under the support of the US administration”, Larijani added in his remarks on Sunday. He further described the Israeli regime’s policy of creating tension in the region as well as US President Donald Trump’s decision to move his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as plots orchestrated by Tel Aviv and Washington to undermine the region’s security and stability. “The terrorists ruling Tel Aviv only understand the language of force”, the top Iranian official noted, adding that only resistance can stop the “power-mad” regime. Larijani further called on Muslim countries to take the necessary measures and back the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
