Radev vetoes a bill on the status of lands

Bulgarian President Radev vetoed a bill intended to change the rules for establishing the status of lands designated for agricultural use. The bill modified also some sections of the Farmland Protection Act on the rules for the status of farmlands. As a motivation, the Presidency explained that “these regulatory changes will stimulate farmland owners to change their status and, for a prolonged period of time, not carry out any development, waiting for a convenient moment of investor interest”.

Issues with European Questionnaire

Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović has stated that the country is currently facing issues with chapter 22 on regional cooperation of the European Questionnaire. conversations have been conducted in Banja Luka in the Government of Republika Srpska in order to define the responses of the participants in this process. Regarding the current implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), Šarović pointed out that it has given some concern to the country especially with neighboring countries such as Croatia.

Hybrid regime in BiH

According to the 2017 survey of the “Index of Democracy” conducted by the British newspaper The Economist, BiH is classified into “hybrid regimes”. Ranking 101st out of 167, BiH has scored 4.87 out of 10. For the election process, BiH received a score of 6.5, for the functioning of the government 2.93, political participation 5, political culture 3.75 and social freedom 6.18. According to the analysis provided, BiH was placed in the same category as Turkey, Iraq, Ukraine, Nicaragua, Nepal, Mozambique and Bolivia.

Petrol: US major ExxonMobil wants to set up in Algeria

The US major, ExxonMobil, the world’s largest petrol company, plans to set up in Algeria and develop joint projects with Sonatrach, the Algerian oil and gas group CEO, Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour, has announced. APS at the end of his three-day visit to Houston, the head of Sonatrach said ExxonMobil was “extremely interested” by the investment in Algeria. Ould Kaddour, who had just taken part in the second Algerian-American forum on energy, described his many meetings with executives of American oil companies, including ExxonMobil and Anadarko, as “positive”.

Mohamed Assaf: ” we will not give up the 1967 borders ”

Palestinian Information Minister Mohamed Assaf said in Algiers on Friday that the Palestinian Authority will not give up the 1967 borders, saying the United States will have no role in the peace outside a multilateral international mechanism under the auspices of the United Nations.

New diplomatic missions will be opened by Albanian government during 2018

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Europe announced that during 2018 the Albanian government will approve the opening of two new diplomatic missions: a new embassy in Canberra, Australia, and a consulate in Guangzhou, China. At the moment, Albania has just one embassy in China thus the opening of the consulate will increase its diplomatic presence in the country. Moreover, concerning the new consulate in China, the Ministry stated that this will have an economic impact thanks to the huge investments that can be made by different Chinese investors. With regards to the embassy in Australia, the Ministry expressed the conviction that its opening “will enable a more efficient and effective presentation of Albania in order to promote it, by maximizing and intensifying economic cooperation”.

MoI, involvement of internal people in Kabul attacks

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that the recent terrorist attacks in Kabul have been taken place in cooperation of internal and influential people in the country. “Despite terrorist attacks organize outside the country but without a doubt they have their influential people inside the country”, said Nasrat Rahimi, spokesman of MoI. According to Afghan military analyst, the Government can easily identify and arrest these influential people through investigation. Afghanistan’s capital Kabul has suffered three deadly attacks in a little over one week.

US, Taliban do not want peace

According to the U.S. deputy secretary, John Sullivan, Taliban attack on civilians show that Taliban do not want peace, but war. “Unfortunately, at this stage, everyone but the Taliban appears ready for peace. The Taliban’s reprehensible attacks targeting innocent civilians demonstrate that they are not ready to enter into good faith peace negotiations”, Sullivan said. The U.S. deputy secretary Sullivan who has visited Kabul noted that pressures are ongoing for bringing the Taliban group to the negotiation table and emphasized on an Afghan led-peace process. “Our policy is for continue to – for us to continue to put pressure on the Taliban – military, economic, political – to bring them to the negotiating table where the ultimate resolution will be through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process,” he said. Sullivan said that U.S. seriously asked  Pakistan to end violence, take practical measures and cooperate with the Afghan government. “We have made clear to the Pakistani Government our expectations for them to take action against terrorists that are in sanctuaries in Pakistan to reduce the pressure and the threat of violence in Afghanistan, and to contribute to a lasting and enduring peace in Afghanistan and the region”, he added. Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the group was “killing innocent people left and right so we don’t want to talk with the Taliban. There may be a time but it may be a long time”. The Taliban warned that Trump’s rhetoric would most certainly result in more war and bloodshed.

Saudi-led forces denied that Houthi militias have targeted Riyadh with ballistic missile

Col. Turki Al-Maliki, the spokesman of the Saudi-led coalition, denied rumors circulated by some media release that Houthi militias managed to successfully target Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport. Al-Malki confirmed that it was rather a failed attempt by the Iran-backed militias to fire a ballistic missile toward an uninhabited desert. He pointed out that the terrorist Houthi militias have admitted through their media outlets that they deliberately target civilians, in clear violation of international humanitarian law.

Saudi official statement after Aden clashes

The Saudi Cabinet has welcomed statements from the Arab Coalition Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen calling for restraint and to open a dialogue over the developments in the temporary capital of Yemen in Aden. Chaired by King Salman, the Cabinet also praised the coalition’s call on the Yemenis to work jointly with the coalition to complete liberation of Yemeni lands from the Iranian-backed Houthi militias and to avoid partition, discord and the undermining of state institutions in the conflict. The Cabinet further welcomed the coalition’s demand to all Yemeni parties to stop fighting immediately and to focus on the key objectives, notably restoration of legitimacy, security and stability, and to resolve all issues through available political mechanisms.
