Soon after his arrival in Tehran, Foreign Minister held detailed talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Javad Zarif on bilateral relations and the prevailing regional situation, including efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan. “The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views about efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan, particularly in the context of latest developments in Afghanistan”, the statement said, adding that “They agreed that there was no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan and a politically negotiated settlement was imperative for lasting peace in Afghanistan. They underscored that the regional countries have vital stakes in stability in Afghanistan should play a more proactive role in the peace efforts”.

Houthi militias embarked on a forced recruitment campaign targeting the children in the northern Yemeni province of al Mahwit, an area under Houthi control. Local sources confirmed that the leadership of the coup militia in the province of Al-Mahwit asked the Directorate of Jebel al-Mahwit and several directorates to support their fronts with 170 fighters as compulsory conscription. Al-Mahwit Media Center said that the militias held a meeting on Monday to approve the formation of a committee to carry out the effort to impose recruitment on citizens. The committee involves the director of the al Jabal directorate Ali al-Tayari, the secretary-general of the local council Yahya Khadeef, the Houthi leader, Abdul Jalil al-Asiri and Ali Bahr. The militia fronts have witnessed a large deficit and a severe shortage in their fighters, after thousands of them were killed on the fronts and the majority fled, forcing them to resort to forced conscription and intensifying the mine layering in an effort to disrupt the progress of the national army supported by the Saudi led Arab Coalition.

Iranian Vessel Shoos off US Warship in Persian Gulf

in MIDLE EAST/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

A US warship was shooed away from Iran’s territorial waters after it received a tough warning from an Iranian navy vessel. The incident happened when an Iranian fishing boat named Shams demanded Navy’s help after an engine malfunctioning in waters 45miles off the coast of Iran’s Jask port. The Iranian Navy sent its missile-launching warship, Falakhan, for help and the fishing boat was towed to the pier to prevent further damage and drowning. A US warship with the body number 02 was approaching the fishing boat but it was shooed away after receiving a warning from the Iranian warship. The incident happened a few months after a commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy blasted the recent change of course by a US warship towards the IRGC vessels in the Persian Gulf, and warned of the dire repercussions of such “unprofessional” actions by Americans.

US discouraging big banks to work with Iran: Nuclear official

in MIDLE EAST/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

The US is trying to poison the business environment and discourage big banks and companies from working with Iran, Iranian vice president said. ‘The US is fear mongering. But in reality they cannot accomplish much. There is a lot of rhetoric, yes. If the US turns those words into real action, we will then have to face a very different situation’, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi said in an exclusive interview with German Der Spiegel magazine released on Friday. ‘We are continuously assessing if this agreement benefits us, or if the price is too high to stay in the deal. If the United States pulls out of the agreement, but the rest of the countries stay committed – namely Britain, France, Germany, China, and Russia – then Iran would most probably stick with the commitments to the agreement without the US but if the US leaves the treaty and Europe follows, then this deal will certainly collapse and Iran will go back to what it was before and, technically speaking, to a much higher level. As a person who has taken part in these negotiations, I wouldn’t like to see that happen’, he stressed.

Afghans protest ongoing violence in Myanmar

in ASIA/MIDLE EAST/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

On Thursday, thousands of Afghans took to the streets in different cities of Afghanistan to denounce ongoing violence in Myanmar’s western Rakhine state. Fresh violence erupted in Rakhine nearly two weeks ago when security forces launched an operation against the Rohingya community. It triggered a fresh influx of refugees to neighboring Bangladesh, which already hosted around 400,000 Rohingya. According to the UN refugee agency, 164,000 Rohingya had crossed into Bangladesh by Thursday. In the capital Kabul, the demonstrators gathered outside the United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan office. They chanted slogans against the Myanmar authorities, urging the human rights organizations and the UN to play their due role in stopping the “genocide”. Attaullah Faizani, an organizer of the demonstration, told Anadolu Agency on the occasion that the purpose of protest is to express solidarity with the Muslims in need.

Saudi Foreign Ministry: Qatar News Agency continues to distort facts

in MIDLE EAST/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

Saudi Arabia said it was suspending any dialogue with Qatar because Qatar News Agency continues to distort facts. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) made the announcement an hour after reporting a phone call between leaders of the two countries in an effort to resolve the dispute between Qatar and the quartet of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. The four countries severed diplomatic relations with Qatar in June, accusing it of supporting extremist groups and of being too close to Iran. They also shut down air, maritime and land links and imposed economic sanctions on Qatar. In an earlier report Saturday, the Saudi Press Agency said Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received a call on Friday from Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, who it said had expressed his desire to start a dialogue. The call came a day after US President Donald Trump said he would be willing to step in and mediate the worst dispute in decades among the US-allied Arab states and Qatar, and said he thinks a deal could come quickly. After reporting the phone call between Crown Prince Mohammed and Sheikh Tamim, another Saudi Press Agency report said that Saudi Arabia was suspending the dialogue, quoting a Saudi official at the Foreign Ministry as saying Qatar’s state news agency Qatar National Agency published a report that “did not have any relevance to truth”.
