Teenage boy and woman killed in LoC firing by Indian

A woman and a teenage boy were killed and six others wounded in two districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) after Indian troops resorted to shelling from across the restive Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday, civil and military officials said. “Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Nezapir sector targeting civil population. A citizen embraced shahadat while 2 children [were] injured,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported in a brief statement. The military’s media wing claimed that Pakistani forces responded ‘effectively’.Nezapir sector is located in Haveli district. Haveli Deputy Commissioner Kashif Hussain told Dawn that shelling began at around 11am and continued till 4pm. “Indians used both small and heavy weapons but got a befitting response from our side”, he claimed. Hussain said a 16-year-old boy Rafaqat, son of Zakar, was herding cattle in Akhori Bala village when he fell victim to Indian shelling and lost his life. In Kairni village of the same sector, eight-year-old Usama and his seven-year-old sister Mavia were injured, and shifted to a military-run health facility in Kahuta, the district headquarters, he added. In Kotli district, Indian troops fired mortar shells at Tarkundi, Plani and Kalar Galla villages of Nakyal sector in the afternoon, “without any provocation, targeting unarmed and innocent civilian populations”, said Nakyal Assistant Commissioner Waleed Anwar.

The minister also assured that the Pakistani government is taking all out efforts to insure security to all Chinese nationals. Expressing her desire for enhanced cultural and media contacts by sharing cultural norms and exchanging media delegations, she called for closer co-operation in the field. The minister further said that Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its manifestations and forms and has achieved success in combating it, which is borne out by the fact that terrorist attacks which were 2600 in 2013, had reduced by 82% to 160.

$2.68 billion in humanitarian assistance

The Lebanese government plans to receive $ 2.68 billion in humanitarian assistance and investment in the country’s infrastructure and public services as part of the Lebanese Crisis Response Plan (LCRP). The LCRP 2018 package was announced on Thursday and funds will be used to provide humanitarian assistance to Syrian refugees, who are around 1.9 million, to Lebanese refugees and vulnerable Palestinians, as well as to invest in Lebanon’s infrastructure, public services and local economy. Over 123 national and international partners have pledged financial support to avoid a sharp deterioration of the country’s humanitarian conditions and infrastructure and, following the renewal of the commitment, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Philippe Lazzarini, said that preserving the stability of the Lebanon means maintaining tolerance, diversity and stability in the region.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that the recent terrorist attacks in Kabul have been taken place in cooperation of internal and influential people in the country. “Despite terrorist attacks organize outside the country but without a doubt they have their influential people inside the country”, said Nasrat Rahimi, spokesman of MoI. According to Afghan military analyst, the Government can easily identify and arrest these influential people through investigation. Afghanistan’s capital Kabul has suffered three deadly attacks in a little over one week.

US, Taliban do not want peace

According to the U.S. deputy secretary, John Sullivan, Taliban attack on civilians show that Taliban do not want peace, but war. “Unfortunately, at this stage, everyone but the Taliban appears ready for peace. The Taliban’s reprehensible attacks targeting innocent civilians demonstrate that they are not ready to enter into good faith peace negotiations”, Sullivan said. The U.S. deputy secretary Sullivan who has visited Kabul noted that pressures are ongoing for bringing the Taliban group to the negotiation table and emphasized on an Afghan led-peace process. “Our policy is for continue to – for us to continue to put pressure on the Taliban – military, economic, political – to bring them to the negotiating table where the ultimate resolution will be through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process,” he said. Sullivan said that U.S. seriously asked  Pakistan to end violence, take practical measures and cooperate with the Afghan government. “We have made clear to the Pakistani Government our expectations for them to take action against terrorists that are in sanctuaries in Pakistan to reduce the pressure and the threat of violence in Afghanistan, and to contribute to a lasting and enduring peace in Afghanistan and the region”, he added. Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the group was “killing innocent people left and right so we don’t want to talk with the Taliban. There may be a time but it may be a long time”. The Taliban warned that Trump’s rhetoric would most certainly result in more war and bloodshed.

The Saudi Cabinet has welcomed statements from the Arab Coalition Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen calling for restraint and to open a dialogue over the developments in the temporary capital of Yemen in Aden. Chaired by King Salman, the Cabinet also praised the coalition’s call on the Yemenis to work jointly with the coalition to complete liberation of Yemeni lands from the Iranian-backed Houthi militias and to avoid partition, discord and the undermining of state institutions in the conflict. Commercial relations with Israeli settlements in the West Bank

The United Nations Human Rights Office said it had identified 206 companies that so far have commercial relations with Israeli settlements in the West Bank, where it claims that violations against Palestinians are “pervasive and devastating”. The report is politically sensitive because the companies mentioned by the UN could be targeted for boycotts or divestments aimed at strengthening the pressure on Israel and its settlements, which many countries regard as illegal. Most of these companies are based in Israel or its settlements (143), the second largest group in the United States (22), the rest in 19 other countries. The report, which did not indicate the companies claimed that the work in the database production on the companies will not involve a judicial process of any kind. The mandate of the UN office was only to identify the companies involved in the construction and surveillance of settlements, including transport services and banking and financial transactions that may raise human rights concerns. The violations associated with the settlement according to the report affect every aspect of Palestinian life, including freedom of religion, movement and education, as well as lack of access to land, water and livelihood.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu strongly condemned an Irish legislative initiative calling for a boycott of products in Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria. In a statement he stated that the objective of the proposed legislation is to support the BDS movement and those who seek to boycott and damage the State of Israel. The initiative, in addition to prohibiting the import or sale of such products, would also prohibit services from Judea and Samaria. The Irish Senate has decided that the debates on the bill will be officially updated by July, so as to have time to pursue a diplomatic approach and action at EU level, as well as give more time for improvements, amendments and changes to the bill.
