A new report by Ares, a network of European think tanks, underlined a planned move by the EU to boost cooperation in defense between the members states, that could have a big impact on the defense industrial relations between the single EU states and USA. An European common defense is becoming every day more real and to let this cooperation begin EU wants to promote a stronger cooperation between EU and USA that would shift away from present bilateral ties, which block deeper cooperation between EU member states. Those bilateral agreement hamper cooperation on technological exchange between EU members because there are rules that deny the possibility of working with non-U.S partners. The report also point out a lack of reciprocity and an absence of an equal regulation of the arms industry in the U.S. and the EU. The point is to build agreements that is mutually beneficial and that let EU to build an autonomous defense program.
