Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi reiterated his country’s opposition to any kind of talks with foreign powers over its missile and defensive programs. “We have not changed our position and have several times repeated that our missile issues are a part of our defensive policies that are not in violation of the (UNSC) Resolution 2231 at all”, Qassemi told reporters in Tehran on Monday. “We don’t allow other governments to interfere” in our domain of affairs, he added. In relevant remarks in August, Qassemi blasted the US officials’ remarks against the country’s missile program, stressing that Washington is not entitled to speak about Iran’s internal affairs”. The issue with the missile is internal, defensive and related to deterrence which is in no violation of Resolution 2231 and is not related to them (the Americans)”, Qassemi said.

He declined to elaborate on the details of Iran’s response, and said, “God willing, you will come to see (Iran’s reaction)”. His remarks came few hours after IRGC top Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said imposition of new sanctions by Washington against Iran means a US withdrawal from the nuclear deal, and warned that the US should leave the region and stay 2,000km away from Iran if the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) comes into effect.

Turkey launches operation in Syria ‘for security’

in EUROPE/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

Turkey has announced the beginning of a new military operation into Idlib province in Syria as part of a deal with Russia and Iran, in an attempt to create de-escalation zones and also prevent Syrian Kurdish groups from building a “terror corridor” along the Syrian border toward the Mediterranean Sea. The Turkish Armed Forces on early Oct. 8 shelled positions in jihadist-controlled Idlib in support of the advance of Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters on the ground, a day after Ankara announced the start of an operation there. “The [operation] process, which began yesterday and started to be implemented today, is continuing together with the Free Syrian Army without any problems”, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said. Erdoğan underlined that the operation into Idlib, just like the Euphrates Shield Operation, is part of Ankara’s strategy to eliminate security threats at their source. “We are obliged to break this terror corridor from the east toward the Mediterranean. We cannot tolerate this. Otherwise we’ll suffer from another Kobane [incident]. We don’t want that and we won’t allow it”, Erdoğan said.

Iran Categorically Dismisses “Unfounded” US Human Trafficking Allegations

in MIDLE EAST/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

The Iranian foreign ministry categorically dismissed as “unfounded and unreal” the recent US human trafficking allegations against Tehran. “We believe the US government is trying to distract world public opinion from the responsibilities it shoulders under the relevant international treaties and conventions through such acts. That’s for the same reason that we consider the US move in preparing fake reports and leveling accusations against the independent countries doomed”, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Wednesday. Iran as a signatory to the UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (the Palermo Convention) has so far undertaken extensive executive and legal measures in the field of fighting the evil phenomenon of human trafficking which have been verified by relevant international organizations and mentioned in UN Office on Countering Drugs and Crime, he said.

He underlined that if the other side shows disloyalty to the nuclear deal and harms Iran’s interests, his country will take appropriate decisions to adopt countermeasures. His remarks came after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned that if the US and other states party to the 2015 nuclear deal defy their undertakings, Tehran will revive its halted or restrained nuclear activities with capabilities more advanced than the pre-agreement era. “If Europe and Japan and Russia and China decided to go along with the United States, then I think that will be the end of the deal”, Zarif said in an interview with The Guardian and the Financial Times newspapers conducted in New York and published late September.
