Nearly 90,000 Rohingya escape Myanmar violence as humanitarian crisis looms

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stated that more than 73,000 Rohingya Muslims have reached Bangladesh in an attempt to escape Myanmar army’s and the Buddhist nationalists’ attacks in Rakhine State. European Rohingya Council (ERC) President Hla Kyaw said that the government will later “attempt a massacre”. He also said that the advancement of Rohingya genocide is the primary goal of the army. He added, “the second goal is to leave them for dead by preventing aid”. Rohingya Muslims were grateful to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his reaction against the Myanmar government. On Friday he stated that the persecution of the Rohingya Muslims was equivalent to a genocide. The massacre against Rohingya Muslims is being protested around the world.

Northeastern Syria: Kurdish-Led SDF Drive ISIL out of 65 Percent of Raqqa City

The predominately Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have pushed back ISIL from 65 percent of Raqqa city’s neighborhoods, Jeihan Sheikh Ahmad, the official spokesman for the Euphrates Rage Operation Room said on Monday. Ahmad said that the Kurdish forces have seized control over the neighborhoods of old Raqqa and al-Dar’eiyeh that were the most important strongholds of ISIL in the city.In the meantime, the People’s Protection Units (YPG) released a full statement covering the battle for Raqqa where heavy clashes continue day and night. According to the YPG (main military branch of the SDF) press statement, some 65 percent of Raqqa’s provincial capital has been ‘liberated’ while 2,000 hostages were freed from ISIL captivity over the past month. Effectively, Kurdish forces are now in control of 14 of out the city’s 23 neighborhoods, the YPG statement added.

Arab Media: ISIS after safe haven in North Africa

‘The Syrian government forces’ advances have left a few options for ISIS and it seems that ISIS can just find hideouts in the three regions of Derna, Benghazi and Cert in Libya’, al-Qods al-Arabi newspaper wrote in an analysis on Sunday. ‘They also use Libya as a training center for training and equipping suicide bombers, specially those who come from Tunisia,’ it added.The newspaper also referred to al-Qaeda Leader Mokhtar Belmokhtar’s presence in Libya, and said he is the main obstacle to ISIS’s advance in Southern Libya, Niger and Northern Mali unless the ISIS works out an agreement with him for alliance.For more than two years, fighters from the ISIS have exploited civil war chaos in Libya to establish control over large stretches of the coastline and pockets of territory elsewhere.

Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos officials: Sirte security force let down by Presidential Council

The Sirte security force was let down by all Libyan components including the Presidential Council, which formed it, the senior leader of the force – which is part of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos, Ali Rafida, has revealed. He added on Sunday that the Presidential Council is to blame for lack of logistic support, which led to inability to do security work in Sirte, saying treatment and salary payments for the force’s personnel have been neglected for over eight months. Meanwhile, the media office of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos said on Facebook Sunday that Mohammed Al-Haddad – the commander of the central military zone and appointed by the Presidential Council – checked on the Sirte security forces that are installed on all the city’s entrances and up to eastern Sirte.”We will talk to the concerned authorities for the needed support to fight off IS militants,” the commander told the forces, according to the media office.

Iraqi army highlights importance of civilian security ahead of Hawija operation

The evacuation of civilians will be a priority as plans to liberate the Hawija district in western Kirkuk from the Islamic State (IS) are underway, the Iraqi army said on Sunday. The Iraqi Defense Ministry released a statement on Saturday indicating that troops were redeployed in Kirkuk in preparation to recapture Hawija. Brigadier-General Yahya Rasul, a spokesperson for the Iraqi Army Joint Operations Command (JOC), said the safety of civilians in the district was important. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over the militant group in Tal Afar, west of Mosul, on Sep. 1 just two weeks after the campaign began. Brigadier-General Rasul said the offensive to liberate Hawija would “be fundamentally different than that for Tal Afar”.

 

Top Commander: Iranian Forces Fighting against Terrorism in Regional States despite US Plots

Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri underlined that his forces are cooperating with the regional countries in the fight against the terrorist groups despite the opposition and obstacles imposed by the US. “Despite all plots and schemes by the enemies, specially the US, which are hatched and implemented everyday, the Armed Forces are successfully conducting their mission to safeguard the country’s security and help fight against terrorism in neighboring countries”, General Baqeri said, addressing a forum in Tehran on Monday. He added that the Syrian and Iraq armies and their allies’ victories against terrorist groups in Aleppo and Mosul are inspired by the Iranian forces’ holy defense during the imposed war (1980-1988) which was supported by the western powers.

Iran Never to Allow Foreigners to Inspect Its Military Sites: MP

A senior Iranian lawmaker denounced the US call for inspection of Iran’s military sites, stressing that the Islamic Republic will never allow foreign sides to inspect its military centers. There is no connection between the country’s military centers and its nuclear activities, Spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini underlined in an interview with Tasnim. He added that Iran’s military sites are top secret and their “doors are closed to strangers forever”. The official advised US officials to avoid speaking about Iran’s redlines and instead fulfil their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 nuclear deal between the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

 

Taliban commanders among 25 killed, wounded in Helmand airstrikes

At least twenty five Taliban insurgents were killed or wounded during the air strikes in southern Helmand (province of Afghanistan), the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Monday. The three local Taliban commanders killed during the air strikes have been identified as Mullah Khaliqdad, Mullah Musafir, and Khayal Mohammad, MoD added. The air strikes targeted the hideouts of the insurgents that led to the casualties to the Taliban insurgents and four hideouts of the group were destroyed in total. The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far. Helmand remains one of the most volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001 where terrorist related incidents are frequently reported from its various districts.

BRICS leaders want violence in Afghanistan ceased

BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) leaders strongly condemned terrorist attacks on innocent Afghan nationals on Monday. The countries, adopting the Xiamen Declaration, agreed to strengthen cooperation against a range of terror groups. A statement issued by the participants deplored “all terrorist attacks worldwide” and condemned terrorism “in all its forms and manifestations wherever committed and by whomsoever” adding that there can be no justification for any act of terrorism. The statement said nations should unite to fight the groups in accordance with the principles of international law, but emphasized the importance of not interfering in the sovereign affairs of individual states. The ninth BRICS summit chaired by Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the need for immediate cessation of violence in Afghanistan and reaffirmed their support to the people of Afghanistan.

 

Sixteen civilians executed in Islamic State-held towns in Anbar

Islamic State has executed sixteen civilians in western Anbar towns, an informed security source said. Speaking to Alghad Press on Sunday, the source said, “IS militants executed 16 youths in the evening in each of Annah, Qaim and Rawa towns over spying for security troops”. Earlier on the day, the militant group reportedly tightened measures on citizens in Qaim, al-Ebeidi town and Okashat region. Curfew has been imposed since the morning. Tens of leaders, who likely ran away from Aiyadhiya and Tal Afar, arrived on Saturday in Qaim. Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition regularly pound IS locations in the province. In late July, a military source was quoted saying that Lt.Gen Abdul-Amir Yarallah, commander of the Nineveh Operations, ordered to besiege IS havens in western Anbar preparing to invade them.
