Iran Patrolling Persian Gulf under Int’l Law: Top General

Iranian forces patrol the Persian Gulf in accordance with international regulations, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said, deriding the idea that such patrol operations or war games should be coordinated with trans-regional forces coming from thousands of miles away. Addressing a conference on defense laws, held in Tehran on Tuesday, Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri took a swipe at the US for dispatching its naval forces to the Persian Gulf from thousands of miles away and trying to force other vessels to make arrangements with American warships when passing by. Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined that security of the Persian Gulf region comes within the purview of the regional countries alone, and dismissed the US claim of seeking security in the region

Yemen cholera epidemic hits over half a million with ‘sharp rises’ in new cases

Yemen’s cholera outbreak has infected 612,703 people and killed 2,048 since it began in April, and some districts are still reporting sharp rises in new cases. The overall spread of the epidemic has slowed in the past two months, with the daily number of new suspected cases cut to around 3,000 in recent days. WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said some of the most affected areas, such as Sanaa City and the governorates of Hajjah and Amran, had seen falls in the numbers of new cases. But there had been a “sudden and significant increase” in the number of suspected cases reported from 12 districts, in the governorates of Hudaydah, Al Jawf, Al Mahwit, Ibb, Dhamar, Al Bayda and Aden. WHO is currently investigating the reason for this increase. The United Nations has said the epidemic is man-made, driven by a conflict that has left 15.7 million people without clean water or sanitation.

Yemen’s Houthi militias fear ‘coup,’ says ousted president Saleh

Yemen’s Former president Ali Abdullah Saleh said in an interview on Al-Yemen Al-yom television (controlled by his party) that the country’s Houthi militias feared a “coup” but that there were no longer any tensions with them. Also he said that there were fears and suspicions that the rallu would be a coup against the iran-backed hutis and said houthi leaders told him ther had been an operation against them and a GPC plot to take control of state institutions. In response, Saleh said he had sent two letters to Abdel Malek al-Houthi, head of the militia group, to reassure him. Cracks emerged in the alliance between Saleh and Houthis after the two publicly accused each other of treason. Saleh ruled Yemen with an iron fist for more than three decades before stepping down in 2012 after a bloody, year-long uprising. But Saleh retained the loyalty of some of the best-equipped units in the military and later joined forces with the Houthis, after they overran the capital in 2014.

Turkey to send 1,000 tons aid to Rohingya Muslims

Following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and de facto Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s discussion on Tuesday regarding the Rohingya crisis, Turkey has been permitted to send 1,000 tons of humanitarian aid to the region. The aid will not be limited to food and clothing, but will also include medicine and health products sent intermittently. They also discussed options for delivering humanitarian aid and resolving the crisis. Erdoğan condemned both terrorism and the use of disproportionate force. Myanmar had before blocked all United Nations aid agencies from delivering food, water and medicine to Rohingya Muslims: TIKA will be the first foreign agency to enter the region. On Wednesday Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will travel to Bangladesh’s Dhaka to speak with Rohingya refugees.

Serbian PM meets with US State Department official

PM Ana Brnabic on Tuesday met on the margins of the Bled Strategic Forum with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Brian Hoyt Yee. The Serbian government announced this on its website – adding, while quoting Brnabic – that “one of Serbia’s foreign policy priorities is a continuation of the positive dynamics of relations with the United States of America”. They also “discussed the European path of Serbia and agreed that the European integration of the entire region is a key element of regional stability and development”. Brnabic said that EU membership is a foreign policy priority for Serbia, that our country will remain a reliable and credible EU partner, but that it is very important that all EU institutions have a constructive approach and that they are open and ready to admit new members. They also “spoke about the improvement of economic cooperation and agreed that there is room for its intensification, first and foremost in the fields of energy and mining”

Several illegal migrants shelter centers shut down in Libya

The Head of the Illegal Immigration Fight Center, Mohammed Besher, ordered Tuesday the shutdown of several migrants shelter centers in Tripoli, Sorman, Al-Khums, and Al-Gala. Intelligence official: ISIS receives local and international support

ISIS fugitives in Libya are receiving national and international support, Chief of Military Intelligence of Al-Bonyan Al-Masrous Operation, Brig.
