The Trump administration has told lawmakers that it wants $18 billion over the next decade for the initial phase of a Mexico border wall, laying out for the first time a detailed financial blueprint for the president’s signature campaign promise. The money would pay for 316 miles of new fencing and reinforce another 407 miles where barriers are already in place, according to cost estimates sent to senators Friday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. in AMERICAS/POLITICS by

The Iranian ambassador to the United Nations on Friday accused the United States of abusing its power as a permanent member of the Security Council during an emergency meeting called by the Trump administration to discuss unrest and protests in Iran. Gholamali Khoshroo said the protests that have roiled Iran over the past week were an internal domestic affair, outside the mandate of the Security Council. He cited a long list of protest movements in the United States, including Occupy Wall Street, anti-Vietnam protests at Kent State University in 1970 and the subsequent shooting deaths of students, and the recent protests over the killing of African Americans by police officers. The Department of Homeland Security said Friday that Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen had not yet made a decision on whether to end the program, which would force those people back to their native El Salvador or become undocumented immigrants if they choose to remain without legal protections. Recent moves by President Trump, who favors lower levels of legal immigration, suggest the Salvadorans’ protections are in peril.

Tensions between Turkey and US

in ASIA/POLITICS by

According to Turkey, the bilateral legal accords with the U.S are losing validity. Erdogan criticized Washington for not meeting for the extradition of FETO’s leader, which is blamed for the failed coup attempt in 2016 that killed 249 people and injured more than 2,000. This came after the trial of Turkish banker Mehmet Hakan Atilla in New York, who is accused of evading U.S. sanctions on Iran. According to Erdogan, U.S. needs to review the jury’s decision because the case was full of contradictions.
Defense said that prosecutors questioned Atilla based on a report prepared by a fugitive member of FETÖ, Osman Zeki Canıtez, in an attempt to strengthen the government’s case. The request was again declined by Judge Richard Berman, whose links to FETÖ have long overshadowed the trial.
Evidence has revealed that Berman was hosted at a FETÖ-linked event in Istanbul and the judge had also criticized the dismissal of FETÖ-linked judges, prosecutors and police officers on charges of unlawful wiretapping. Furthermore, the U.S. support for the PKK terrorist group and the armed group YPG got worse the relation between the two nations.
