Ajimobi condems Olubadan palace shooting

in AFRICA/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

There was chaos at the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, during the installation of Mogajis and
Baales. The Olubadan (Olubadan means Lord of Ibadan) is the royal title of the king of Ibadan land in Nigeria,
now a largely symbolic role. The ceremony was reportedly going smoothly when four gunmen in a black Toyota
Sienna opened fire sporadically just before noon, shattering the glass and windscreens of cars parked in front of
the palace. Punch reports that its journalist covering the event and several others from media houses across the
country, including a chieftain of Labour Party who was a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government,
Sharafadeen Alli, were among the people who narrowly escaped death while the shooting lasted. The Oyo State
Governor Abiola Ajimobi has condemned the shooting at the Olubadan palace on Monday, while also calling on
security agencies to ensure the gunmen were apprehended. The governor said that the government would do
everything to check the activities of some people who were making efforts to return the state to a period when
violence ruled with the citizens living in fear because of insecurity to their lives.
