.

in AMERICAS/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

A Turkish minister says the “American system” has been infiltrated by a Muslim cleric blamed for last summer’s failed coup. Foreign Minister M. Cavusoglu told journalists Friday that cleric Fethullah Gulen “has entered American missions here through the local staff,” referring to the arrest of a local staff member of the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul in October for alleged links to Gulen. The minister also said Gulen infiltrated the U.S. judicial system by pointing to purported links in the controversial case of Turkish-Iranian businessman Reza Zarrab, charged by an ex-U.S. attorney for evading sanctions on Iran. Cavusoglu said Preet Bharara was “very close” to Gulen and used the same indictment prosecutors filed against Zarrab in Turkey after corruption allegations shook the country in 2013. Gulen denies involvement in the coup.

The U.S. 7th Fleet said in a statement the carrier strike group converged near South Korea for a rare four-day exercise in the Western Pacific, with their accompanying warships set to conduct “coordinated operations to demonstrate the U.S. Navy’s unique capability to operate multiple carrier strike groups as a coordinate strike force effort”. According to an official from the South Korean military, the strike groups was planning to hold joint military exercises with Japan’s Maritime Self- Defense Force on Saturday and Sunday, after which they will train with the South Korean Navy on Monday and Tuesday. U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Adm. Scott Swift said in a statement, “Multiple carrier strike force operations are very complex and this exercise in the Western Pacific is a strong testament to the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s unique ability and ironclad commitment to the continued security and stability of the region”. The North Korean dictator is said to have examined it for a “long time” and warned the United States to cease its reckless actions. Shin Won-sik, former head of the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff operational headquarters, said that the U.S. Navy’s coordinated operations would “give a taste” of Washington’s military options on North Korea. Shim Beom-chul, a professor of defense and unification issues at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy in Seoul said, “It’s a message to China to do more to pressure the North.” Shim added that Trump’s way of pursuing foreign policy objectives through the support of naval power is a type of “gunboat diplomacy”.

As Trump heads to Asia, U.S. simulates strike in Korea

in ASIA/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

On the eve of U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Asia, North Korea has alleged that the U.S. military practiced ‘surprise strike’ bomber runs on key targets in its country. North Korea’s official KCNA news agency said on Thursday that U.S. B-1B bombers ‘simulated surprise attacks’ on the country overnight. The move by U.S. further inflamed tensions just ahead of Trump’s visit to Asia. North Korea claims that the simulated strike was conducted in an effort to ‘threaten and blackmail’ its leader Kim Jong Un’s regime. KCNA said, “The frenzied U.S. scheme of threats and blackmail, which aims to crush our republic with nuclear (weapons) continues in November as it did in October. The U.S. may make frantic last-minute efforts to block our powerful advances by shoving nuclear strategic assets at us, but our army and people are not ones to be startled.” KCNA added that the bombers’ movements only inflamed an already tense situation with three U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carriers now operating in the western Pacific. General McMaster, however, pointed out, “His trip is a great opportunity to demonstrate America’s and the Trump administration’s commitment to the Indo-Pacific and our efforts to strengthen longstanding American alliances and expand new partnerships”, Experts believe that Trump’s meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping will likely be key to the tour. Trump is expected to pressure China on multiple fronts, including the most contentious issues – North Korea. McMaster said, “China is definitely doing more but obviously it is not enough until all of us achieve denuclearization.

Kim Jong Un’s plot: biological weapons

in ASIA/ECONOMY/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

With the world already fretting about North Korea unleashing a nuclear war, what with its sophisticated hydrogen bombs and other nuclear weapons – another fear has now gripped the region. According to a latest report, the reclusive nation led by Kim Jong Un is now mass producing deadly batches of biological weapons that could kill tens of thousands of people. A report by the Belfer Centre of Harvard University’s Kennedy School has revealed that North Korea is “mass producing deadly batches of smallpox and the plague.” The report stated that the dictator is harvesting agents such as plague, anthrax and cholera. The report quotes the South Korean Defense Ministry as saying, “North Korea has 13 types of biological weapons agents which it can weaponize within ten days, and anthrax and smallpox are the likely agents it would deploy”. It goes on to reveal, “Agents like anthrax could cause mass casualties with a small amount: only a few kilograms of anthrax, equivalent to a few bottles of wine, released into a dense city could kill 50 percent of the population. If used on a large scale, these weapons can cause not only tens of thousands of deaths, but also create panic and paralyze societies”. On Monday, as the report was revealed, North Korea yet again took a potshot at the U.S. President Donald Trump, calling him a “hooligan” and a “lunatic with his finger over a nuclear button.”A statement by the North Korean government quoted in the KNCA said, “Dignitaries of White House, and State and Defense Departments of the U.S. are having a hard time cooling Trump overheated with a war fever, but only the South Korean puppet forces are fanning up the lunatic fingering a nuclear button. What is ridiculous is the puppet forces’ poor plight of being treated as a street girl even though they play the coquette with the U.S. and serve it with devotion”.
