Surrender of a terrorist in Tamanrasset

Vehicle ploughs into pedestrians in Shanghai, injuring 18

Eighteen people, including the driver, were injured today when a minivan caught fire and mounted the pavement in a busy part of central Shanghai and ploughed into pedestrians. Investigations showed the fire was caused by a 40-year-old driver who was smoking a cigarette inside the vehicle while illegally transporting highly flammable substances. Given the dynamics of the incident it was feared it was a terrorist attack.

MoI, involvement of internal people in Kabul attacks

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that the recent terrorist attacks in Kabul have been taken place in cooperation of internal and influential people in the country. “Despite terrorist attacks organize outside the country but without a doubt they have their influential people inside the country”, said Nasrat Rahimi, spokesman of MoI. According to Afghan military analyst, the Government can easily identify and arrest these influential people through investigation. Afghanistan’s capital Kabul has suffered three deadly attacks in a little over one week.

ISF arrests suspected terrorist

The leadership of the internal security forces has captured a suspicion of links to the terrorist group of the Islamic state in the eastern city of Bekaa, Majdal Anjar. This is a Lebanese citizen identified by his initials as R.A, said the statement of the ISF. The suspect is wanted for several arrest warrants: terrorism, fraud, arms trade and the transfer of foreigners, in particular from Syria to Lebanon. During the interrogation, the defendant admitted having witnessed the infiltration of a terrorist from the Syria to Lebanon, to carry out bombing operations in Lebanon and smuggling 100 wireless devices for fighters in Syria.

Syria offensive: US seeks to address Turkey’s ‘legitimate’ security concerns

The U.S. is willing to work with Turkey to adress its “legitimate” security concerns in northern Syria, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said. He was speaking after Turkey’s military incursion into northern Syria to fight the Kurdish YPG militia at the weekend. Turkey sees the group as terrorists, but they have been crucial in a US-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) group. Ankara said the US had to stop backing the YPG if they wanted cooperation.

PKK attack in Turkey

One person died and two others were injured Monday during a cross-border attack by PYD/PKK terror group in southern Turkey as Turkish army’s operation in Syria’s northwestern town of Afrin continues. According to a security source,  PYD/PKK terrorists in Syria’s northwestern town of Afrin targeted the southern Hatay province with a mortar shell, killing one person and injuring two. Separately, a Turkish soldier was slightly injured in the border district of Ceylanpinar of the southeast province of Sanliurfa after being hit by  PYD/PKK. Later on Monday, three rockets fired from across the border landed in southern Kilis province. On Monday afternoon, another rocket was was fired by PYD/PKK terrorists in Afrin.

Syria operation not limited to Afrin

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said last week that after Afrin has been cleared of terrorists, Turkey will expand its operations to other critical areas. “Turkey’s measures against the YPG/PKK cannot be limited to Afrin alone. There is also Manbij and east of the Euphrates River”, Cavusoglu told reporters. According to the Turkish General Staff, the operation aims to establish security and stability along Turkey’s borders and the region as well as to protect the Syrian people from the oppression. Also Turkey reiterated that the terror group PYD/PKK should not attend the Jan. 30 Syria National Dialogue Congress in the Russian Black Sea resort.

Suspended the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue

Following the assassination in Mitrovica of the top Kosovo Serb Politician Oliver Ivanovic, the Serbian authorities made unilaterally the decision to suspend the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Ivanovic, considered as one of the most moderate Kosovo Serbs, was shot dead in front of his party’s office in the Serb-run north of Mitrovica.  As reported by the Albanian Daily News, the Head of the Serbian delegation in the bilateral dialogue which is taking place in Brussels, Marko Djuric, announced the withdrawal from the dialogue as well as the return to Serbia. Djuric, responding to the journalists, defined Ivanovic’s Murder “a terrorist and criminal act that must be punished”.
