Zamfara Carnage: NEMA confirms 54 dead, 7000 displaced

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday confirmed that 54 persons were killed by suspected cattle rustlers in Bawar Daji District, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara state last week Wednesday. 71 persons injured with over 7000 displaced persons. NEMA said the attacks affected places like Baudi, Tungan Turkish, Doka, Zanoka, Akuzo and Dogon Ruwa. Zamfara State Governor, Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar, alongside security chiefs and members of the State Executive Council on Friday visited Emir of Anka over the killings. Governor Yari during the condolence visit to the Emir directed the security agencies to shoot anybody found with arms “in the bush”. The governor said the laws of the country allow only security personnel to carry arms. “It is criminal for any person who is not a security personnel to carry arms, therefore I have ordered the security agencies in the state to shoot at sight any person who carries AK 47 or any other weapons in the bush, be Fulani, Hausa or any tribe. 

The bandits attacked the area after some members of the community held a meeting to discuss measures to be taken against banditry during the 2018 farming season. The bandits had earlier threatened that there would be no farming activities in the area in this year’s rainy season. 

UPC and FPRC responsible for the death of 17 civilians in a hospital of Ippy

The mission of the United Nations in the Central African Republic (Minusca) has exposed, on Monday 5th of February, the report about the death, happened in December 2017, of 17 civilians in the attack to a hospital in Ippy, a city situated 113 km from Bambari, in the prefecture of Ouaka. The killings are attributed to the armed groups Unity of peace of CAR (UPC) Africa and Patriotic Front for the Renaissance of Central Africa (FPRC). “The militiants of UPC and FPRC have surrounded the hospital the 12th of December and they have indiscriminately opened the fire on the civil personnel and on the patients of the hospital, killing 12 men, a woman, three children and a child”.

Attack at Afghan market

At least five civilians were killed when three mortar shells hit local market in Khwaja Sabz Push district, police said on Tuesday. A local police spokesman  said five people, including women and children, got killed and around 50 other got wounded in the incident.
There has been no claim of responsibility, but the local administration is blaming the Taliban for the attack.
The market hit by the mortars is located only meters away from the district administration compound.
Abdullah Masoumi, the district governor, said the rockets were fired by the Taliban, and the attack may have targeted a provincial delegation, including the governor, building it hit the Bazar.
This comes a day after two similar rockets landed inside the diplomatic enclave in the capital Kabul, but caused no human loss.
