Commander Highlights Iran’s Role in Regional, Global Equations

TEHRAN – On Wednesday, during his speech at a cultural ceremony in Tehran, Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami stressed the Islamic Republic’s growing strength and influence, underlining how regional and global issues cannot be resolved without Iran’s presence. General Salami discussed about the recent defeat of the Daesh terrorist group and downfall of its self-proclaimed caliphate in Iraq and Syria, stressing Iran’s role in the major achievement and highlighting that the US and Zionist regime and their regional allies created Daesh to divide Muslims and confine the extent of the Islamic Revolution’s influence. “However, what happened was the expansion of the Islamic Revolution’s influence”, as he said. The commander also emphasized that thanks to the grace of God the threats posed against Iran by the enemies have been turned into opportunities for the country. He stressed that today Iran’s presence is essential to resolve regional end global matters and showed how the country is becoming more powerful while enemies are getting weaker.

AEOI Chief: Possible US Sanctions against IRGC Means Declaration of War

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi warned that his country considers sanctions and blacklisting of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as declaration of war by Washington. “Given the fact that the Army and Armed Forces guarantee protection and security of any country, we consider this measure as declaration of war”, Salehi said, addressing a group of media elites and analysts of British think tanks in London on Wednesday. He also warned that breaching the 2015 nuclear deal by the US President Donald Trump will entail global repercussions. More in his meeting in London, Salehi hailed European states and other parties’ stances in support of the JCPOA, saying that Iran will take appropriate decision considering US administration’s behavior towards the nuclear deal.

Iran, Iraq launch joint military drills

Iran and Iraq have started out joint military maneuvers in the Islamic Republic’s west and northwest to practice providing security for their common borders. The drills, codenamed Eqtedar (Authority), recruit armored, artillery, and infantry units of the Iranian Army, the drone and helicopter squadrons of the Ground Forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), as well as some units enlisted with the Iraqi Army, ISNA reported on Monday. The exercises span the borders of Iran’s West Azarbaijan and Kordestan Provinces. Speaking on the sidelines of the drills, the IRGC’s Ground Forces Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said, “Facing common enemies, Iran and Iraq consider ensuring the security of their long borders against threats to be a perpetual and common necessity”.

Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) highlighted the significance that Iran attaches to the security of its borders. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an ongoing military exercise in Iran’s northwestern border regions on Sunday, Brigadier General Hossein Salami said ensuring border security and protection of the border areas is a top priority for the IRGC forces. In order to ensure full security along the borders, the IRGC both demonstrates its defensive readiness and chases the enemies in practice, he said of the purposes of the ongoing military drill. Pointing to the crises that Iran’s neighboring countries are facing, the General lashed out at the hegemonic powers for favoring a geopolitical change in the world. The global arrogance and its allies are trying to change the world’s geopolitical map, he added.

IRGC Official Warns of Serious Regional Challenges after Iraqi Kurdistan Referendum

Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Deputy Commander for political affairs Brigadier General Rasoul Sanayee Rad warned that the referendum for independence in the Iraqi Kurdistan region will lead to serious regional problems. “Holding a referendum under the conditions that we are moving to the post-ISIL era can pave the ground for serious regional challenges for Iraq and other neighboring states”, General Sanayee Rad said on Tuesday. Referring to the Iraqi government and parliament’s opposition to the referendum, he said President of the Iraqi Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani has dissolved the parliament in the region in the past few years and ruled the region via ethnic and family ties and his plan to hold a referendum rather than benefiting the Kurdish people is a personal move for family gains. “In addition to the Iraqi officials and people and the neighboring states, the European countries are also opposed to the referendum plan after experiencing insecurities in Europe”, General Sanayee Rad said.
