Macedonian president remains on his positions

Presidet Gjorge Ivanov remains on the already stated position on the Law on the use of Languages and the signing of the decree for its promulgation, the President’s office confirmed for MIA. After the repeated vote on the bill on March 14, Ivanov in an address to the public said that he would not sign the decree for its promulgation saying that the Constitution and his conscience did not allow him to. The law, which had been first passed on January 11, was sent back to Parliament after Ivanov refused to sign it.

The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta is paying an official visit to Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, at the invitation of his counterpart, Gjorge Ivanov. The two Presidents held a meeting, followed by a meeting between the delegations. Meta praised close historical and cultural ties, and underlined that they are existential and defining. President Ilir Meta was received in a separate meeting by the Prime Minister of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev. Mea congratulated the PM on the positive resùlts of both electoral processes in Macedonia and hailed the concrete engagements of the new government to improve the climate and inter-ethnic relations, but also to create a positive relation with neighboring countries. Meta and Zaev shared the same view on the indispensability to increase economic and trade cooperation, and to enhance energy and infrastrùctùral ties, where the implementation of joint projects in the frame of Corridor 8 is very important. In this frame, President Meta underscored that extraordinary resùlts can be achieved with non-extraordinary investments. The interlocutors expressed confidence that in the upcoming meeting between the two governments, in Pogradec, all these issues regarding comprehensive promotion and development between the two countries will be addressed.

President Ivanov says that Despite Brexit UK keeps on supporting Macedonia

Despite Brexit, the United Kingdom will continue to support Macedonia, it was conveyed to Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov in his meetings in London with the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, and the Speaker of the House of Lords, Lord Fowler.President Ivanov said the meetings mainly focused on Brexit, a burning issue in the UK, his cabinet said in a press release Wednesday. Overall bilateral relations between the countries dominated the meetings. Next year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Republic of Macedonia and the United Kingdom.Meeting with the speakers of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the Macedonian President shared views about current developments in the region, including the migrant crisis and Macedonia’s role in addressing it.Later in the day, Ivanov will deliver an address on topic “Macedonia, Migration and Security: Lessons Learned” in the Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs.
