China’s military fires up world first in revolutionary rail gun technology

China is believed to be testing the world’s first ship-mounted rail gun, a technology that military experts say has the potential to fire shells with enough force to destroy a warship and precision to shoot down a satellite.
Photographs of a rail gun mounted on a warship docked in Wuhan, Hubei province, have surfaced on Chinese military websites in the last week, indicating the People’s Liberation Army Navy is testing the electromagnetic weapon and has been able to make it more compact. The controversial development comes as China seeks to transform its navy into a blue-water force capable of rivalling the United States and projecting power far from home shores.

China carries out anti-missile test amid tension over North Korea’s nuclear programme

The Defence Ministry said China carried out a successful test of its anti-missile intercept system on Monday,  adding that the test was not targeted at any particular country. The exercise involved ground-based mid-course interception missile technology and  is used to knock out incoming ballistic missiles during the middle phase of their flight.  The exercise took place amid simmering tensions over North Korea and rising concerns about India’s growing missile capabilities.

Minister of State for Information visit to China on the invitation of Chinese Government

Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb who is on a visit to China on the invitation of Chinese Government, met Jiang Jianguo, Vice Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of CPC, and Minister of State Council Information Office (SCIO) on Sunday. Welcoming the Minister of State, Jiang Jianguo said that it is a pleasure to receive her on her first official visit to China, added that their two countries share a high level of mutual trust, respect and friendship. He further said that CPEC, being flagship project of Belt and Road Initiative, is a project of our shared future.She informed that irrespective of party affiliations, all political parties in the country support CPEC. The minister also assured that the Pakistani government is taking all out efforts to insure security to all Chinese nationals. Expressing her desire for enhanced cultural and media contacts by sharing cultural norms and exchanging media delegations, she called for closer co-operation in the field. The minister further said that Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its manifestations and forms and has achieved success in combating it, which is borne out by the fact that terrorist attacks which were 2600 in 2013, had reduced by 82% to 160.

North Korea earned $200 million from banned exports, sends arms to Syria, Myanmar – U.N. report

A UN report said North Korea violated United Nations sanctions in 2017 earning nearly $200 million with banned commodity exportation, in particular coal to Russia, China, South Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam and weapons to Syria and Myanmar.

Britain’s May gets 9 billion pounds in China deals, Xi promises to build on ‘golden era’

British Prime Minister Theresa May left China today with deals worth more than 9.3 billion pounds ($13.26 billion), at the end of a three-day trade mission where President Xi Jinping pledged to upgrade their “golden era” in relations. Britain, which is trying to reinvent itself as a global trading nation after Brexit, put China first on the list of countries that Britain wants to sign a free trade agreement with. China, for its part, sees Britain as an important ally in its call for more open global markets. Chinese investment is helping Britain develop infrastructure and create jobs, with some 50,000 British businesses importing goods from China and more than 10,000 sell their goods to China.

New diplomatic missions will be opened by Albanian government during 2018

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Europe announced that during 2018 the Albanian government will approve the opening of two new diplomatic missions: a new embassy in Canberra, Australia, and a consulate in Guangzhou, China. At the moment, Albania has just one embassy in China thus the opening of the consulate will increase its diplomatic presence in the country. Moreover, concerning the new consulate in China, the Ministry stated that this will have an economic impact thanks to the huge investments that can be made by different Chinese investors. With regards to the embassy in Australia, the Ministry expressed the conviction that its opening “will enable a more efficient and effective presentation of Albania in order to promote it, by maximizing and intensifying economic cooperation”.

North Korea’s ambassador to China makes first official appearance in two months

North Korea’s ambassador to Beijing, Ji Jae-ryong, made his first public appearance in roughly two months, prompting speculation about warming relations between China and North Korea and whether some kind of important development or event is in the works. Ji reportedly shook hands and exchanged greetings with South Korean Ambassador Noh Young-min. Noh told Ji that he hoped the inter-Korean talks that resumed ahead of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will continue. Ji said in response that he hoped the Pyeongchang Olympics would be a success, according to sources.

Japan seeking policy talks with China before leaders’ visits

Japan is proposing fresh dialogue with China in several specific fields to prepare for the potential resumption of reciprocal leaders’ visits. It is a significant thaw in Japan-China relations, that are showing signs of improvement: Neither Abe nor Xi has held talks in the format of an official visit to the other’s country since they both took office in 2012. Frameworks will concern the climate change and how best to reduce emissions; the nuclear disarmament to reduce tensions over the fundamental difference in their position (Japan is sheltered by the U.S. “nuclear umbrella”, while China has its own nuclear arsenal); the common ground about counterterrorism.

China needs more nuclear warheads to deter US threat, military says

The Chinese military’s mouthpiece said China must expand its nuclear stockpile so it can better deter and hit back at an enemy strike as geopolitical uncertainties mount and the US appears bent on a nuclear build-up.
China had enough nuclear weapons to prevent “bullying” by other nuclear powers but still needed to respond to changes in US strategy. The commentary comes as the administration of US President Donald Trump is expected to unveil its new military weapons policy later this week.

Taiwan mounts live-fire drills to test defences against invasion

Taiwanese troops staged live-fire exercises simulating an invasions of the island as mainland China steps up pressure on Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen. While not specifying that the drill simulated an invasion by mainland China, the authorities said the exercise was to “show determination to safeguard peace in the Taiwan Strait and national security”.
