“Terrorism affecting Afghanistan is product of Pakistan’s policy” says Afghan foreign minister

Afghanistan today didn’t mince words in declaring at the UN that terror in Afghanistan is the “product of (a) long-standing policy” of Pakistan. Afghanistan also said that that terror’s “roots are located in terrorist sanctuaries and safe havens outside” its borders. With its unequivocal declarations, Afghanistan today joined US President Donald Trump, the BRICS countries, Japan and India in naming and shaming Pakistan, a country many have come to call a “terrorist state”. Afghan foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani  said – at the UNSC’s open debate on Afghanistan – that while Afghanistan has tried to resolve issues with Pakistan, the latter hasn’t responded positively. Rabbani’s comments came a little over a month after Trump outlined his administration’s strategy for Afghanistan where the US has been involved in a long drawn out conflict, since 9/11/2001.

 

Xi: Emerging nations deserve role

President Xi Jinping, spoke while presiding over the dialogue of emerging market and developing countries on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. The dialogue was attended by leaders from: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and five other developing countries, which are Egypt, Guinea, Mexico, Tajikistan and Thailand. Xi announced that China was setting aside 76 million dollar, for economic and technological cooperation. This dialogue will strengthen the solidarity and cooperation among emerging and developing countries.

 

Sisi signs three deals with China’s president at BRICS summit

Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Tuesday, signing three agreements on security, transport and satellite technology.The two leaders met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Chinese city of Xiamen, Egypt’s state-run news agency MENA reported.According to Alaa Youssef, Egyptian presidential spokesperson, El-Sisi signed two agreements and one memorandum of understandin regarding the creation of a new electric train service in Egypt.The two ministries are already engaged in cooperation on security issues, having signed a technical cooperation deal in September 2016 relating to security and counter-terrorism operations. Egypt is battling a terrorist insurgency based in North Sinai, while China is engaged in counter-terrorist operations in its restive northwestern province of Xinjiang.

El-Sisi holds talks with Putin on sidelines of BRICS summit in China

Egypt’s president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Chinese city of Xiamen, state-run news agency MENA reported.The meeting included talks on several bilateral and international topics of a common interest. According to the presidency spokesperson Alaa Youssef, Putin praised the increase in trade between the two countries, as well as the bilateral coordination on regional and international issues. Meanwhile, El-Sisi invited Putin to attend a celebration at the site of the Dabaa nuclear-power station, which Egypt is planning to build with Russian assistance. El-Sisi is also expected to holding bilateral meetings with his Chinese and Indian counterparts during the three-day summit, as well as meeting with a number of large Chinese companies investing in Egypt.Earlier today, Sisi delivered a speech before the BRICS Business Forum, where he spoke of Egypt’s economic reform program, and related reforms of the subsidy system and social security system.

BRICS leaders want violence in Afghanistan ceased

BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) leaders strongly condemned terrorist attacks on innocent Afghan nationals on Monday. The countries, adopting the Xiamen Declaration, agreed to strengthen cooperation against a range of terror groups. A statement issued by the participants deplored “all terrorist attacks worldwide” and condemned terrorism “in all its forms and manifestations wherever committed and by whomsoever” adding that there can be no justification for any act of terrorism. The statement said nations should unite to fight the groups in accordance with the principles of international law, but emphasized the importance of not interfering in the sovereign affairs of individual states. The ninth BRICS summit chaired by Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the need for immediate cessation of violence in Afghanistan and reaffirmed their support to the people of Afghanistan.
