Kim Jong-un praises ‘perfect success’ of North Korea’s latest nuclear test as UN prepares to vote on tough new sanctions

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un praised the perfect success, and media reported that US drive for tough new sanctions. North Korean Leader called for redoubled efforts to complete the country’s mission to become a recognised nuclear power. Pyongyang says it needs nuclear arms to protect itself from the US, but US has accused the nation of begging for war. The UN Security Council, which is set to consider a new draft resolution presented by Washington that is “the toughest ever imposed on North Korea”. The US is calling for an oil embargo on the North, an assets freeze an ban on textiles and the end to payments of North Korean. China and Russia are thought to have raised opposition to the measures. The request for North Korea is abandon the nuclear programmes, missile programmes and to refrain from more testing, because this is a violation of several UN security resolutions and it’s a threat to international peace and stability.

Chinese bank ban ‘threatens to tighten chokehold’ on trade with North Korea

Beijing has reportedly ordered Chinese state banks to suspend accounts held by North Koreans. Bank of China (China Construction Bank and Agricultural), border with city of Yanji, Jilin province, had suspended transactions through accounts held by North Koreans. Chinese analysts said: traders might still be able to find loopholes to bypass the ban, but China’s decision not change. Zhang Liangui, a North Korea specialist at the Central Party School, said big transactions, such as Chinese oil exports to North Korea, would be particularly hard hit because banks were integral to the trade. The UN Security Council is expected to vote on Monday a set of new sanctions against North Korea, the US has been pushing for a full ban on oil supplies to the country, North Korea textile exports, for work overseas, as well as an asset freeze. This is not the first time China has tightened its financial sanctions against North Korea. Last year, an ICBC  (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China) branch in the border city of Dandong, froze accounts belonging to North Koreans.

Afghans protest ongoing violence in Myanmar

On Thursday, thousands of Afghans took to the streets in different cities of Afghanistan to denounce ongoing violence in Myanmar’s western Rakhine state. Fresh violence erupted in Rakhine nearly two weeks ago when security forces launched an operation against the Rohingya community. It triggered a fresh influx of refugees to neighboring Bangladesh, which already hosted around 400,000 Rohingya. According to the UN refugee agency, 164,000 Rohingya had crossed into Bangladesh by Thursday. In the capital Kabul, the demonstrators gathered outside the United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan office. They chanted slogans against the Myanmar authorities, urging the human rights organizations and the UN to play their due role in stopping the “genocide”. Attaullah Faizani, an organizer of the demonstration, told Anadolu Agency on the occasion that the purpose of protest is to express solidarity with the Muslims in need.

Defense Ministry surprised at statement from German military authority about West-2017

The Russian Defense Ministry is surprised at the statement made by German’s Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen claiming 100,000 Russian military will be involved in the Russia-Belarus West-2017 exercise, spokesman of the Russian authority Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday. “We are surprised at the statement, made by the German defense minister, Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, as she quoted the unreasonable figures concerning claimed 100,000 Russian military to be involved in the West-2017 exercise and about consequent threats to Europe”, the spokesman said. “The German side was notified and it has received all the exhaustive information about the plot, defense character and real numbers of the Russian military involved in the West-2017 exercise”. The joint strategic exercise Zapad-2017 is scheduled for September 14-20. Six proving grounds in Russia and Belarus will be used. It is expected that 12,700 troops will take part (about 10,200 in Belarus) and 680 pieces of military equipment. The Belarussian Defense Ministry has dispatched invitations to monitors from seven countries and a number of international organizations, including NATO, CSTO, CIS, UN and OSCE. Russia, too, has invited senior officials from a number of foreign defense ministries to see the final phase of the exercise.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also said hoped Nepal could be a bridge between China and India. After talks with Nepalese Foreign Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Wang said China and India should work hard to make sure their ties don’t derail, become confrontational or get out of control. China and India are partners and they have a opportunity for development, instead of sticking to the old mindset of perceiving each other as a rival or threat he said. Wang said China had no intention of bullying a small country, or interfere with Nepal’s internal politics. At the time,  Nepalese Foreign Minister Mahara saying that Nepal will not get dragged into the border dispute, nor be influenced by either China or India.

Russian Aerospace Force eliminates IS “minister of war” — Defense Ministry

A command center and a communication hub have been destroyed and 40 militants of the Islamic State terror group were killed near the city of Deir ez-Zor, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

MOSCOW, September 8. /TASS/. Russian aircraft have delivered airstrikes near the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor, destroying a militant command center and a communication hub, and eliminating four important field commanders, including IS “minister of war” Gulmurod Khalimov, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

“As a result of a precision airstrike carried out by Russian warplanes near the city of Deir ez-Zor, a command center and a communication hub have been destroyed, while around 40 militants of the Islamic State terror group were killed,” the statement reads. “It has been confirmed that there are four important field commanders among the eliminated militants, including the so-called ‘Emir of Deir ez-Zor’ Abu Muhammad al-Shimali, who was responsible for financial affairs and the transfer of recruits to the IS training camps. It has also been established that the so-called ‘minister of war’ of the Islamic State terror group, Gulmurod Khalimov, was present at the meeting and died of fatal wounds”, the Russian Defense Ministry added. Khalimov was a former commander of the Tajik Interior Ministry’s special forces. In May 2015, together with six of his soldiers, he joined the IS. After Abu Omar al-Shishani was killed, Khalimov became the IS minister of war.

China detects rising radiation levels in areas close to North Korean nuclear blast site

Guo explained that it was considered normal for readings to fluctuate within a 20 nanogray range due to the effects of wind, rain and cosmic rays. Radioactive materials floating high in the atmosphere could be carried down into the soil by rain, she said. Several regions close to the test site had recorded rain in the past few days, according to Chinese weather authorities.

Sisi signs three deals with China’s president at BRICS summit

Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Tuesday, signing three agreements on security, transport and satellite technology.The two leaders met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Chinese city of Xiamen, Egypt’s state-run news agency MENA reported.According to Alaa Youssef, Egyptian presidential spokesperson, El-Sisi signed two agreements and one memorandum of understandin regarding the creation of a new electric train service in Egypt.The two ministries are already engaged in cooperation on security issues, having signed a technical cooperation deal in September 2016 relating to security and counter-terrorism operations. Egypt is battling a terrorist insurgency based in North Sinai, while China is engaged in counter-terrorist operations in its restive northwestern province of Xinjiang.

Russia’s new ambassador to US focused on development of Russia-US relations

Russia’s new Ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Antonov said in an interview with the Russian television he is focused on development of the Russian-U.S. relations and considers it necessary to stabilize them. “I believe, counterparts from the Department of State, the National Security Council, Pentagon, those who remained from Barack Obama, have not ruined completely the Russian-American relations”, he said, adding the existing cooperation with the U.S. under programs of the Ministry of Culture, in the spheres of fishery, industries, space development “add to certain optimism and the opportunity to hold on to something to develop those relations”. “I am focused on progress of the kind”, the ambassador added. Russia is interested in development of relations with the U.S. as much as it is, he continued, but at the first stage it would be necessary to attempt stabilizing the relations, “trying not to allow further slide towards a crisis in the relations”. “As of today, the most important is not to allow further sanctions spins”, he said. “I hope the U.S. counterparts do not follow this route”. It is necessary to be talking to the U.S. despite the problems in bilateral relations, he continued. “My opinion is talking with this America it is not only possible but necessary”, the ambassador said. “No matter, how complicated the time is, talking is necessary”. “It is rather diplomats sit by the negotiations table than the military watch each other though rifle scopes”, he said. “We had to experience such a period, and we shall calmly and professionally solve the tasks emerging from the Russophobia policies, inherited from Obama’s Administration”.
