Key members of the US government will attend a meeting, set this week, to discuss the situation in Yemen since the Arab Alliance requested their participation in the battle to control the port. The proposal was presented last year to the Obama administration, which rejected the plan because it was seen as a direct engagement of US troops in Yemen. Nowadays US officials said there are two plans to intervene in Yemen against the Houthis and their allies, one sponsored by Central District Commander General Votel and the second one by the Defense Secretary Mattis. It will be President Donald Trump to decide wich plan to proceed with. Some details about the plan have leaked and it seems that the US will assist UAE forces with Special Forces, air and sea backup and surveillance. Moreover the plan proposed by the Defense Secretary will not include ground troops or US special units but will include planning, providing coordinates and fuel for the fighters and in fine field commanders will manage the battle without going back to the White House.

Speaking to thousands of pro-Israel activists, Vice President Mike Pence said the United States is still considering moving the US Embassy in Israel an action expected to be met with strong opposition in the Arab world. “After decades of simply talking about it, the President of the United States is giving serious consideration to moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem”, Pence told the annual policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee on Sunday. The pro-Israel lobby, popularly known as AIPAC, is holding the event in Washington. The embassy promise was a mainstay of President Trump’s campaign speeches, but the administration backed off making the move immediately once it took office.

The United States, Britain and France are among almost 40 countries that will not join talks on a nuclear weapons ban treaty starting at the United Nations on Monday, said U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley. Haley told reporters the countries skipping the negotiations are instead committed to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which entered into force in 1970 and is aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology. “There is nothing I want more for my family than a world with no nuclear weapons. But we have to be realistic. Is there anyone that believes that North Korea would agree to a ban on nuclear weapons?” Haley told reporters.

North Korea ready to conduct nuclear test.

North Korea appears to have completed preparation for another nuclear test and is ready to carry it out, South Korea’s military said Friday, as the United Nations adopted a statement condemning Pyongyang’s latest military provocations. “Our assessment is that North Korea is ready to conduct a nuclear test if they get the go ahead from Kim Jong-un”, said an official from Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff in a meeting with reporters. “We believe they have been preparing for a long period of time”. Fox News and AFP reported Thursday that the North would conduct a sixth nuclear test within the coming days, citing US officials with knowledge of the matter.

A Jewish teenager in Israel made a wave of threats to Jewish institutions in the United States and other countries in recent months, contributing to widespread fears of a spike in anti-Semitism, law enforcement officials said, after an international investigation culminated on Thursday in the arrest of the man, whose lawyer said he suffered from a brain tumor that affects his behavior. The 18-year-old suspect, who holds dual Israeli and American citizenship and lives in the Ashkelon area of southern Israel, had made threats to Jewish community centers and other sites in the United States, Australia and New Zealand, and to at least one commercial airline flight, forcing an emergency landing. His motives were not immediately clear.

Hamas’ grid of terror tunnels does not pose a strategic or existential threat to Israel, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot told the Knesset Control Committee on Wednesday. Hamas’s tunne doesn’t represent a threat to a strategical level, but still exists. Rather it represent a threat on five fronts: In Sinai, from terrorism in Judea and Samaria, on the Syrian and Lebanese borders, and the Iranian nuclear threat. Some of these threats are conventional and some are unconventional. We must emhasize that Israel is making pregress in technology and engineering capabilities, so we can defends our territory. Israel said that they are the forefront of technological progress. No other army has more advanced capabilities than the IDF, including the U.S. and [South] Korea.

 

Anti- ISIS global coalition members to meet in Washington.

U.S.-led Coalition members will hold a two-day meeting in Washington  to discuss the fight against Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria.The meeting of foreign ministers and senior leaders of the Global Coalition, hosted by U.S. State Secretary Rex Tillerson, starts on Wednesday with participation of all members of the Coalition forces, a total numbering 68, the U.S. State Department said. An Iraqi delegation headed by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, will be attending the meeting in Washington. “The ministerial will include a detailed discussion of priorities for the Coalition’s multiple lines of effort, including military, foreign terrorist fighters, counterterrorist financing, counter-messaging, and stabilization of liberated areas, to increase the momentum of the campaign”, the State Department statement added.The ministers will also discuss the humanitarian crises in Iraq and Syria during the meeting, it added.

The United States and Britain on Tuesday imposed restrictions on carry-on electronic devices on planes coming from certain airports in Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and North Africa in response to unspecified security threats. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said passengers traveling from a specific list of airports could not bring into the main cabin devices that are larger than a mobile phone such as tablets, portable DVD players, laptops and cameras.

 

 

Iraqi PM Abadi to meet U.S. president Trump on monday.

About the american-iraqui meeting, Abadi said he hoped the US and other allies would continue to offer economic assistance to Iraq, which he said faced a financial crisis as a result of the war against the militant group. Trump last week announced a $54 billion increase in defense spending. The meeting between Trump and Abadi may touch on some sensitive issues. The Iraqi government objected after its citizens were included on January’s executive order banning travel from certain Muslim-majority countries to the United States. In some of the crucial points that will be part of the discussion we can mention travel ban and Iraq-soil.
