Road connection in district of Ramallah closed by IF

Israeli forces closed the road connecting the towns of Silwad and Ein Yabrud in the occupied West Bank district of Ramallah with a large cement block early Wednesday, imposing a complete closure on the two Palestinian towns. According to locals, residents were forced to use dirt roads or roads far out in the outskirts of the town in order to avoid the cement block, while others were forced to exit and enter on foot. An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an she would look into reports on the closure.

Israeli Forces detained three Palestinians over suspicions of starting fires in Jerusalem and Israel on Tuesday and Wednesday, while at least four Palestinians were detained over accusations of smuggling weapons from Israel into the occupied West Bank to support Palestinian political groups. They were taken in for interrogation. In another incident on Wednesday, a Palestinian was detained on suspicions of throwing a Molotov cocktail into the Israeli town of Nataf in central Israel, sparking a fire, according to Israeli news media Ynet.

President Abbas re-elected as movement leader at Fatah’s conference

After a two-year delay, Fatah movement’s seventh congress kicked off in Ramallah today, where the movement has re-elected President Mahmoud Abbas to a new five-year term. Abbas said that 60 delegations from 28 countries will be joining the conference tonight. Party official Salim Zanoun asked the gathering on Monday to elect Abbas “by consensus.” The hundreds of delegates stood up and applauded Abbas, who then hugged Zanoun, AP reported. The five-day conference is expected to cement Abbas’ control of Fatah and lock out his chief rival, the exiled Mohamed Dahlan.

Palestinian agricultural land has been taken by Israeli settlers

A group of Israeli settlers on Sunday afternoon have taken over a Palestinian-owned agricultural land in the northern Jordan Valley. A local resident told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that the villagers were recently able to obtain an Israeli court verdict that gave them back part of their lands that had been seized by settlers in a previous incident. He affirmed that this court verdict, however, was never respected by Jewish settlers living near their hamlet. He added that a group of settlers seized once again on Sunday their agricultural land and embarked on cultivating it for their own use.

UNRWA workers’ strikes against agency’s administration could be suspended

UNRWA declared it would suspend its strike against the agency’s administration for 10 days. Suheil al-Hindi, the head of the union, told that at Friday’s meeting with UNRWA’s general commissioner it was agreed to freeze the strike and form a committee to find solutions to the union’s demands. He said that the UNRWA administration had responded positively to the union’s demand to fill a number of job vacancies and had hired 200 new teachers, with 200 others to be hired in January. Al-Hindi reiterated that the union was also calling for an end to UNRWA service cuts across the Middle East, and an increase in salaries for local staff and added that the union would escalate its strikes and protests if an agreement was not reached in the coming 10 days.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad may partecipate to Fatah’s 7th conference

The Hamas movement is currently discussing the possibility of attending Fatah’s seventh conference later this week, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasim told Ma’an on Sunday. The announcement came almost a week after Hamas denied reports that it had been invited to attend the congress. Qasim said that Hamas had recently received an invitation to attend the Nov. 29 event in the West Bank city of Ramallah. Meanwhile, Islamic Jihad spokesman Daoud Shihab told Ma’an that the political faction had also received an invitation to the conference, and that it would send a representative to participate.

Construction of 'security wall' around Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp stopped by Lebanon

The Palestinian Unified National Leadership of the Uprising said in a statement on Friday that the Lebanese military responded to its demands to halt construction on the so-called “security wall” being built around a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. The statement said that efforts were conducted by the leadership over the past few days in order to stop the construction of the wall around the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp. In a meeting on Thursday between the leadership and the Lebanese intelligence director of the southern districts, Khader Hamouda, it was agreed that the Lebanese military would halt construction of the wall, according to the statement.

16 Palestinians detained by Israeli Police over suspicions of starting fires in Israel

Between Thursday and Friday, Israeli forces detained at least 16 Palestinians across Israel and the occupied West Bank over suspicions of starting fires that erupted in Haifa and have continued to spread for the fourth consecutive day. Israeli authorities have claimed that the fires were started by “political arson” against the Israeli State. However, other sources have said the fires were likely caused by a combination of extreme winds and a drought.

Israeli forces detained at least 20 Palestinians, including three minors, during overnight raids on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning throughout the occupied West Bank. Israeli forces conduct night raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-daily basis. According to UN documentation, the Israeli army carried out 185 military detention raids over the past two weeks. In the West Bank’s Jerusalem district, Israeli forces detained six Palestinians in the neighborhood of Hizma, including two minors, whom the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

16- year-old sentenced to 13 years of prison by Israeli occupation court

The Israeli occupation court on Wednesday has sentenced the 16-year-old prisoner, Nurhan Awwad to 13 years in prison under the pretext of a stabbing attempt. Israeli Forces shot, wounded and detained Nurhan on 23 November 2015, after having shot-dead her cousin, Hadeel Awwad, under the pretext of a settler-stabbing attempt in Jaffa street, Jerusalem. Two weeks ago, Israel sentenced the 14-year-old child Ahmad Manasra with 12 years of prison, under the pretext of a stabbing attempt as well. On 12 October 2015, Ahmad was shot and tortured on camera by an Israeli settler, while his cousin, Hassan Manasra was killed on the spot.
