Federal Government still working to ensure the release of more Chibok girls

The Federal Government yesterday stated that dialogue was still ongoing to ensure the release of more Chibok girls and other persons held hostage by terrorists, even as it has threatened to deal with sponsors of Boko Haram as terrorists. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity , Dr Femi Adesina made the assertion in Lagos. Reiterating federal government’s resolve at ensuring that those held hostage by members of the Boko Haram sect were released in good condition, Adesina said ” This government is doing all it can to tackle insurgency. If it knows the sponsors and is double sure they are the sponsors, it would be left with no choice than to treat them like Boko Haram”.

President Abbas re-elected as movement leader at Fatah’s conference

After a two-year delay, Fatah movement’s seventh congress kicked off in Ramallah today, where the movement has re-elected President Mahmoud Abbas to a new five-year term. Abbas said that 60 delegations from 28 countries will be joining the conference tonight. Party official Salim Zanoun asked the gathering on Monday to elect Abbas “by consensus.” The hundreds of delegates stood up and applauded Abbas, who then hugged Zanoun, AP reported. The five-day conference is expected to cement Abbas’ control of Fatah and lock out his chief rival, the exiled Mohamed Dahlan.

Normandy Four ministerial meeting has not yielded breakthrough solutions

On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, after talks with his counterparts from Germany, France and Ukraine in Minsk, asserted that the Normandy Four ministerial meetings has yielded no breakthrough solutions. He also said Ukraine is to blame for more violations in the security sphere and in what concerns weapons withdrawal than the self-proclaimed republics. At the same time, Lavrov stressed that the Normandy Four casts no doubts at the leaders agreements reached in Berlin and Paris earlier this year.  The issue of a possible deployment of an armed mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe was not discussed. After the Normandy Four meeting, Lavrov met Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Foreign Minister, for a bilateral meeting.

Azerbaijan and South Africa on the issues of development of bilateral cooperation

Addressing a press conference Nov. 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that he discussed the issues of development of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and South Africa during his meeting with Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation. The two countries are actively supporting each other on international arena, noted Mammadyarov. He added that the two sides discussed a number of issues related to the cooperation in the tax, financial, defense and energy sphere.

Firefighting services will resume their normal works

Shimon Ben Ner, Acting Commissioner of the Fire and Rescue Commission, officially announced on Monday evening that after an assessment of the situation, the firefighting services will resume their normal work as of Tuesday morning. With the announcement, Ben Ner ended the state of emergency that has been in effect over the last week as firefighters battled the forest fires that raged across Israel. The last of the reservists who were summoned for the purpose of assisting in putting out the fires will be discharged on Tuesday.

Hamburg meeting will be attended by the FMs if the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries

The Foreign Ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries will take part in a “3+2” format meeting on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which will be held in the framework of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Hamburg on December 9, said Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. Mammadyarov made the remarks at a joint press conference with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane in Baku Nov. 29. He recalled that Azerbaijan had accepted the proposal of France for a meeting of Foreign Ministers in the format of “3 + 2” on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Hamburg on December 9.   “I don’t think the replacement of the co-chairs is going to change something. The new French co-chair (Stéphane Visconti) is an experienced diplomat who is familiar with the region,” he said commenting on the replacement of the US and French co-chairs of the Minsk Group.

Emergency meeting with UN Security Council called by French FM

On Tuesday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault called on the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting on the Syrian city of Aleppo in order to resolve the humanitarian situation in the city. “Faced with the humanitarian catastrophe in Aleppo, he demanded immediate meeting of the UN Security Council in order to examine the situation in the martyred city and the ways of delivering relief to the people”. On Wednesday, the French Foreign Ministry is set to receive President of the City Council of Aleppo Brita Hagi Hassan.

Amona residents will be moved to temporary structures

A-G Avichai Mandelblit’s proposed solution for Amona was dismissed on Monday night by residents of the town, which is slated for eviction by December 25, as well as by lawmakers from the Jewish Home party. Mandelblit suggested moving the residents of Amona to temporary structures on three plots located north of the community. The solution is a temporary one, for a period of about eight months, and will move the residents to property defined as “absentee property”, meaning assets granted to the state of Israel which originally belonged to individuals who fled to the territory of a hostile nation during the 1948 War of Independence.

GCC denounce Houthi militias of forming a cabinet

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Tuesday has denounced Iran-backed Houthi militias forming a government in Yemen led by Abdulaziz bin Habtour in what’s been viewed as a provocative move. GCC’s Secretary General Abdulatif Al-Zayani said the Gulf states completely reject this step. The cabinet consists of 42 ministerial portfolios that were equally distributed between the Houthis and supporters of deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh. This comes as United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed resumes his efforts to find a solution for the crisis and after Kuwait welcomed receiving the legitimate government’s and rebels’ delegations to sign a peace deal.

4 citizens killed by Saudi aggression missiles

Four citizens were killed, including three children by Saudi aggression missiles fired on al-Dhaher and Shada districts of Saada province. The missiles also damaged citizens` houses and farms in Shada districts, as well public roads in al-Dhaher. Meanwhile, the missiles forces launched a rocket against the Saudi National Guards Camp and the artillery forces shelled Al-Dhab’ah and Al-Mustahdath locations causing direct damages.
