Turkey-backed Syrian opposition forces gained full control of the highway linking Al-Bab to Aleppo

Turkey-backed Syrian opposition forces besieging Daesh-controlled Al-Bab have gained full control of the highway linking the town to Aleppo with intense ground and air fire support, the Turkish military said today. Three Turkish soldiers were killed in clashes near Al-Bab today, and around 20 Turkish soldiers have been killed in the course of “Operation Euphrates Shield”, launched nearly four months ago, to push Daesh militants and Kurdish militias away from the border. Eleven soldiers were wounded, one of them critically, and have been transported to hospital for treatment, the military said.

Evacuation of Aleppo facing delays

The final stage of the evacuation of rebel-held districts of the Syrian city of Aleppo is reportedly facing delays. State media blamed rebels in nearby Idlib province, accusing them of preventing the simultaneous evacuation of two pro-government Shia towns there. The Red Cross says some 25,000 people have left Aleppo in the past week. They are being transported to rebel-held territory in the countryside west of Aleppo and in Idlib, where camps are being set up. If the delays are resolved, BBC correspondent says, Wednesday could be the day the whole of Aleppo returns to government control.

European Union and Arab League condemned atrocities in Syria

In their fourth ministerial meeting, the Arab League and European Union (EU) countries condemned the recent atrocities of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and his allies, according to a joint statement issued by ministers of both sides. The meeting that is currently held in Egypt, with Tunisian Foreign Affairs Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui representing the Arab countries and EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy Federica Mogherini representing the EU countries, also condemned the usage of chemical weapons by all factions in Syria and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation. They also committed to reconstructing Syria once an inclusive political transition is underway.

U.N. authorized to monitor the ongoing evacuation from Aleppo by Syrian government

The Syrian government has authorized the United Nations to send an additional 20 staff to east Aleppo, where they will monitor the ongoing evacuation of thousands of people, a U.N. spokesman said on Tuesday. “The task is to monitor and observe the evacuations,” Jens Laerke told a news briefing in Geneva. “We do not have independent U.N. access to the buses, so we are not able to enter and access people; that does not take away from the protection concerns that we do have and continue to have,” he added.

Iran and Russia on ways to boost defense cooperation

At least 25,000 people have been evacuated from Aleppo, other buses are arriving

The International Committee of the Red Cross says 10 more buses have arrived to the west Aleppo countryside in northern Syria evacuating residents from the opposition’s last foothold in eastern Aleppo. Ingy Sedky, Damascus spokeswoman for the ICRC, says evacuations would continue throughout the day. The ICRC says 25,000 people have been bused out of east Aleppo since rebels effectively surrendered the area under an Ankara- and Moscow-brokered deal. It’s unclear how many remain.

The existence of Iraqi fighters in the restive Syrian city of Aleppo “does not represent the Iraqi government’s official stance,” Ibrahim al-Jaafari said in a press statements at the Ministry. He added that “the government has not given permission to anybody, and Iraq does not intervene with the affairs of other countries”. He noted that “the Iraqi constitution does not prevent Iraqis from travelling anywhere”. Iraq has not given the authorization to local Shia militias to join Syrian President to fight against ISIS and opposition forces.
