President Aliyev congratulated Donald Trump and reminded him of the 25 year old US-Azerbaijani coalition

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Nov. 9 sent a congratulatory letter to Donald Trump, the newly elected US president. “I hope that the US-Azerbaijani bilateral relations will continue to develop successfully,” President Aliyev said. He reminded that the US-Azerbaijani relations have a 25-year history, and during this period, the relations of friendship and cooperation reached a high level. “I hope that as a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group, the US under your leadership will contribute to the fair settlement of this conflict in accordance with the norms of the international law, within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity,” the message said.

Donald Trump congratulated by Saudi King Salman for winning the US presidency

Saudi King Salman on Wednesday has congratulated the Republican Donald Trump for winning the US presidency and said that Saudi Arabia government and its people offer their best wishes for the new US leader. The king also wished more progress for the US government and its people, and more ease for the new Trump administration to be able to achieve security and stability not only in the Middle East but all around the world.

President of the Supreme Political Council, Saleh al-Sammad and his deputy Kasim Labuza held a meeting with Prime Minister Abdul Aziz Bin Habtoor. During the meeting, which was held on Tuesday, the officials reviewed the process of completing the formation of a new national salvation government. Prime Minister confirmed: “the time of declaring the new cabinet will be soon in the next few days.”

Singapore’s presidential election next year will be reserved for Malay candidates in a bid to ensure that all major ethnic groups have a fair chance to serve as president in the longer term, despite the city-state having a dominant Chinese population, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Tuesday. Lee told parliament that the next presidential election, due by August next year, will only be open to Malay candidates under a proposed constitutional change whereby an election will be reserved for a particular racial group if no one from that group has been president for five continuous six-year terms.

Isolating Russia always leads to severe consequences for Europe, according to Russian Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, during a conference at the Russian-German form dubbed  “ The Postdam Meeting” , asserted that efforts to isolate Moscow have repeatedly resulted in sever consequence for Europe. According to the Minister, in the modern interconnected world it is impossible to create separate security islands. He added that “ history has repeatedly proved that the attempts to isolate Russia always lead to sever consequence for the entire continent”. Regarding to Russian-German relation, Lavrov  affirmed that the development of relations between Russian Federation and Germany is an important factor in maintaining Europe’s security and stability. Russian Foreign Minister also said that Moscow is ready to discuss various initiatives, proposals and address the existing issues in a constructive way.

Italy wants to contribute to the development of a cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU

The commitments undertaken by Azerbaijan and Italy on implementation of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will expand bilateral cooperation, said Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni in Baku Nov. 7. “Our cooperation covers many areas, such as trade, agrarian sector, energy,” Gentiloni said in a briefing with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. “Italy can also contribute to development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU.”

2017 Germany’s general elections could be influenced by Russian cyber-attacks

Angela Merkel has said Russia could try to influence Germany’s general elections next year through cyber-attacks or disinformation campaigns, after Washington accused the Kremlin of similar meddling in the US vote. “We are already, even now, having to deal with information out of Russia or with internet attacks that are of Russian origin or with news which sows false information,” the German chancellor said at a press conference alongside the Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg, on Tuesday. Dealing with that was already “a daily task”, she told reporters in Berlin. “So it may be that this could also play a role during the election campaign.”

The majority of the Saudis prefer Hillary Clinton; Iraq and Egypt prefer Trump

An opinion poll by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Washington and that included nine Arab countries revealed that 68 percent of the Saudis prefer that Hillary Clinton wins the presidential elections while 46 percent thought Donald Trump was bad. Asked which of the candidates will positively influence the US policy towards the Arab region, 65 percent of the Saudis said Clinton’s victory will positively impact the Arab region. Meanwhile, the highest percentage in favor of Trump winning was in Iraq and Egypt. Asked about the issues which the upcoming American president must focus on, those interviewed by the poll said the first priority was not intervening in Arab countries’ affairs. Other priorities included combating ISIS, resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, resolving the Syrian crisis and resolving the crisis in Yemen.

National Security Council: prevention, protection and monitoring will be the new strategies against terrorism

President Beji Caid Essebsi chaired, on Monday, the National Security Council meeting to assess the national and regional security situation and discuss the national strategy to fight terrorism and extremism. The latter was approved during the meeting and signed by the Head of State, according to a Presidency of the Republic press release. Prevention, protection, monitoring and response are the main axes of this strategy which has been devised in several stages with the participation of the civil society, the same source added. The meeting also offered the opportunity to discuss the cases of martyrs Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi. The President of the Republic stressed the need to “determine responsibilities and work to unveil the truth as soon as possible.”

Relations between Canada and Saudi Arabia are distinguished

Canadian Foreign Minister Stephane Dion said relations between the Kingdom and his country are distinguished. He was speaking Friday while he met with the president of the Saudi Human Rights Commission, Bander Al-Aiban, in Ottawa. He said human rights in the Kingdom are witnessing tangible developments. Dion said during the meeting that relations between the Kingdom and his country are excellent and that goes for human rights development in both countries. They discussed a number of other issues of joint concern, the relations between the two countries and ways of developing them. Al-Aiban highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts under Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman in supporting human rights issues at all levels, in addition to what Saudi Arabia does to uphold justice.
