Italian ambassador Perrone stressed the LNA’s importance in the fight against terrorism

Italian ambassador Giuseppe Perrone has confirmed Italy’s view that the commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), KhalifaHafter, has to be part of the solution to the Libyan crisis. He also stressed the LNA’s importance in the fight against terrorism in the country. He was speaking as Hafter was in Cairo for talks with the head of the Presidency Council Faeiz Serraj about his possible role in the political structure of Libya. “Italy believes there should be unified military organisation representing Libyans” the ambassador said in an interview. He added that Italy looked forward “to working with all Libyans who are committed to the fight against terrorism and to achieve stability in Libya”. Italy, along with France, the UK and other Western states and the UN have swung round to the view that Hafter, previously seen as an impediment to peace in Libya, has to be part of the political set-up. Perrone also reaffirmed that Italy had no active military presence in Libya, and dismissed the allegation that the Italians had been responsible for shooting down a Libyan National Army helicopter last week as complete nonsense.

Ghani has met the UAE officials to talk about security and cooperation with Afghanistan

The UN refugee agency gives 400$ to refugees to send them back to Afghanistan

A human rights group has accused Pakistan of forcing hundreds of thousand afghan refugees back to their homeland. Human Rights Watch said that the UN refugee agency gives 400$ to refugees to convince them to return in Afghanistan. For Human Rights Watch this is a sort of bribe. “The exodus amounts to the world’s largest unlawful mass forced return of refugees in recent times,” the Human Rights Watch report said. In an interview Indrika Ratwatte, Pakistan’s country representative for the UN refugee agency, said there was police harassment and arrests of Afghan refugees in mid-2016, in a Pakistani province. Meanwhile Pakistan affirmed that it has had some problems to repatriate the refugees in relation to the insufficient security in these provinces.

Yemen: Violation of human rights in the port of al-Mokha, 200 houses destroyed by the airstrikes

The United Nations Human Rights Agency warned about violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law over the past two weeks in the south wester port of al-Mokha. Turkey ambassador also said that Gulf region is a priority in their external relations and he also added that Saudi Vision 2030 is an excellent opportunity for the future of bilateral economic relations.

Guterres expressed his full support to Cheikh Ahmed (UN envoy to Yemen)

During a joint press conference in Riyadh with Foreign Minister Al-Jubeir, UN Secretary-General Guterres expressed his full support to UN evnvoy to Yemen Cheikh Ahmed. He also underlined the key role of the Kingdom in guarantee the stability of the region and fight terrorism.

UN chief met Deputy premier and Minister of Interior ,who praised UN efforts to achieve global peace and stability, and Minister of Defense, who discussed latest developments in Middle East (in particular in Syria and Yemen).

Al-Jubeir talked also about the situation in Yemen and the good relations between the Kingdom and the US.

Guterres denies that the UN is biased on Israeli-Palestinian issues

On monday U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he believed former Palestinian prime minister Salam Fayyad was the right person to be the world body’s envoy to Libya after the United States raised objections to the choice. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has expressed disappointment over Guterres’s choice, saying the United Nations had for too long been “unfairly biased in favour of the Palestinian Authority to the detriment of our allies in Israel”. “It is a loss for the Libyan peace process and for the Libyan people that I am not able to appoint him” Guterres said at the World Government Summit in Dubai. “I do not think there is any valid reason to avoid someone who is very competent to do a job that is extremely important” he said, adding that ending the Libyan conflict was in “everybody’s interest.” It is unclear whether the U.S. objection has ended Fayyad’s candidacy. Guterres declined to answer questions when approached by Reuters immediately after his comments. Guterres dismissed the accusation that the United Nations is biased on Israeli-Palestinian issues and said the body’s only loyalty was to its charter.

Egypt could launch an Arab rescue initiative based on a strategy to fight terrorism

President Michel Aoun on Monday started his first visit to Cairo since his election in October and held talks with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. “Hopes of the role that Egypt could play are high. An Egypt of moderation and openness… could launch an Arab rescue initiative based on a strategy to fight terrorism,” Aoun said at a joint press conference. The two sides “agreed on the need to stand together against the dangers of terrorism,” Sisi said, adding that Egypt was ready “to support the capabilities of Lebanon’s army and its various security bodies”. On Tuesday, Aoun will visit Jordan at the invitation of Jordanian King Abdullah II.

Aoun noted that Hezbollah’s arms are an essential component to defend Lebanon

President Michel Aoun tried again today to justify the presence of Hezbollah arms in Lebanon , stressing that the Lebanese army is not strong enough to defend Lebanon. Aoun, a key all of the Iranian backed militant group also issued a personal guarantee that Hezbollah will not point its guns against the Lebanese people. “Hezbollah are the residents of the South and are among the Lebanese citizens whose land was occupied and part of the land is still occupied,” the president noted, emphasizing that “certainly Hezbollah’s arms do not contradict with the State and are an essential component of the means to defend Lebanon.” Aoun added: “We have a land occupied by Israel and when Israel usurps certain territory, it would be difficult to recapture it. This is how we must view Hezbollah’s weapons.”

The trade exchange between Iraq and Iran has reached $6 billion in the last two years

On monday Iraqi Ministry of Trade announced that the trade exchange between Iraq and Iran has reached $6 billion in the last two years. Iraq exported goods worth $60 million to Iran in 2015 and 2016, according to the statement.“The annual rate of increase of the trade exchange between Iraq and Iran has reached more than $250 million,” the statement reported. “The rate continuously increases despite the oil price, which is low at international markets.”Trade and economic relations between Iraq and Iran have increased since 2003.
