Libya needs to lift ban on arms for better coastguards’ performance, Al-Sirraj tells EU officials

The Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj, has received in Tripoli Tuesday the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Libya, Bettina Muscheidt, the Commander of EU Operation Sophia, Admiral Credendino, and the defense advisor for the Delegation of the European Union to Libya, in the presence of the Coast Guard Commander Abdelhamid Tumiya, and the head of the general directorate of the coast security Colonel Tariq Shanbour, as well as other officials. They all discussed counter-illegal immigration efforts, including the training of Libyan coastguards and border guards to fight away the human trafficking networks and gangs, in addition to the cooperation in information sharing. Al-Sirraj reiterated in the meeting the need for lifting the ban on arming the coastguards in order to help them fight the human trafficking gangs, adding that he looked forward to having essential and vital counter-fuel smuggling efforts as his request was answered with appointing Operation Sophia for that task.

 

HoR members blame Haftar, Al-Sirraj for violations at oil crescent region

Several members of the House of Representatives (HoR) blamed the Presidential Council and the command of Dignity Operation for not protecting the residents of the area from Amra town to Ras Lanuf in east Libya from the arbitrary arrests and violations.The pro-Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) HoR members, who were 21 signing on the statement, said the PC and Haftar’s forces are responsible for repeated attacks on the residents after the turn-up of IS militants, saying they are shocked to see no response by the authorities to such a threat.The statement urged the UNSMIL and the international law and humanitarian organizations to help protect civilians from the threat of terrorists and the attacks as well as the siege that is imposed by Dignity Operation on the district.

Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos officials: Sirte security force let down by Presidential Council

The Sirte security force was let down by all Libyan components including the Presidential Council, which formed it, the senior leader of the force – which is part of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos, Ali Rafida, has revealed. He added on Sunday that the Presidential Council is to blame for lack of logistic support, which led to inability to do security work in Sirte, saying treatment and salary payments for the force’s personnel have been neglected for over eight months. Meanwhile, the media office of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos said on Facebook Sunday that Mohammed Al-Haddad – the commander of the central military zone and appointed by the Presidential Council – checked on the Sirte security forces that are installed on all the city’s entrances and up to eastern Sirte.”We will talk to the concerned authorities for the needed support to fight off IS militants,” the commander told the forces, according to the media office.
