UN Security Council discusses Kosovo

in EUROPE/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

Media, both print and online, cover yesterday’s session of the UN Security Council on Kosovo, most of which highlight ambassador Vlora Citaku’s address where she said that Kosovo remains strongly committed to the EU-facilitated dialogue with Serbia and criticized Serbia for hindering Kosovo’s membership to Interpol and UNESCO saying the decision of Chinese authorities not to grant visas to Kosovo officials largely contributed to the withdrawal from Interpol bid. Citaku disputed figures presented by Belgrade authorities that the number of displaced Serbs is 200,000 saying they were inaccurate. She also requested redefinition of the UN’s role in Kosovo saying the mission is of a peacekeeping nature and peace has already been achieved in Kosovo. Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic, on his part criticized authorities in Kosovo for not establishing the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities and urged them to do so as soon as possible.Meanwhile, most media highlight the statement of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and UNMIK chief, Zahir Tanin, saying that the time for action now moves ahead of the time for excuses. SRSG Tanin said that signs of political will and commitment to move forward are increasingly evident. Tanin commended the parties for integration of Serb judges and prosecutors to the Kosovo’s justice system while with regards to CEFTA, he underlined that Pristina representatives attend all meetings and that UNMIK’s presence is limited by legal statutes.

Dacic in series of bilateral meeting on UNGA sidelines

in EUROPE/PRESS RELEASE/REGIONS by

First Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Erlan Abdyldaev spoke in New York on Tuesday. According to the Serbian government, they “pointed to the importance of friendly and traditionally good relations between the two countries”. At a meeting held on the sidelines of the 72rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dacic invited Abdyldaev to visit Serbia by the end of this year. Abdyldaev pointed out that the position of Kyrgyzstan on the issue of Kosovo is solid – i.e., the country does not recognize the unilateral declaration of independence – and will not change regardless of the outcome of the upcoming presidential elections in that country. Dacic also spoke with the new Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Achim Steiner, and on this occasion it was estimated that the cooperation of Serbia and this organization was good. Dacic “expressed his gratitude for the assistance that UNDP provides to Serbia, and his that the successful cooperation with the UN team in Serbia will continue”. Dacic had the opportunity to meet with the World Bank Director, the President of Montenegro, the Presidency of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the foreign ministers of Italy, Norway and Kenya.

“Greater Serbia aggression” is a great lie – Dacic

in EUROPE/Senza categoria by

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic says the story about “the Greater Serbia aggression” on Croatia is a great lie. “None of you left from Serbia to do damage in Benkovac, Zagreb or other places. That is a big lie before which the international community should not close its eyes”, said Dacic.
He said that in the early 1990s more than half a million Serbs lived in Croatia, while now, 20 years later, there are only 180,000. “You have been expelled and driven out of your centuries-old homes, and before that, the international community must not close its eyes”, said Dacic.
