Iranian President Communicates Parliament’s Approval to Confront US

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani communicated a law earlier approved by the parliament to the foreign ministry to confront the US measures in the region. “The law to confront the US human rights violation and adventurist and terrorist acts in the region” was communicated to the foreign ministry in a letter on Monday. Iran has always blasted the US for supporting the terrorist groups in the region, stressing that Washington is using terrorism instrumentally to meet its interests. “The US and certain regional states speak loudly about fighting against terrorism but today it has become clear that they support the terrorists using different means”, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said in June. “Actually, playing with terrorism is the US strategy”, he added. Also, in February, former Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan lashed out at Washington for creating, supporting and nurturing the terrorist groups, specially the ISIL, in the region.

Erdoğan discusses KRG referendum with Iran’s Rouhani

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed the controversial Kurdish Regional Government’s (KRG) independence referendum with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani over the phone, presidential sources reported. “The two leaders noted that not canceling the referendum will bring with it chaos in the region and they stressed the great importance which they attach to Iraq’s territorial integrity”, the statement released by Erdoğan’s office said. Iraqi Kurds in provinces controlled by the KRG in northern Iraq, including those who are contested between the central government and KRG, are set to head to polls on Monday to vote in a controversial referendum on whether to secede from Iraq. Along with Baghdad, Turkey, the U.S., Iran and the U.N. have all spoken out against the poll, saying it will only distract from the ongoing fight against Daesh and further destabilize the region. Barzani has said a “Yes” vote would not result in an automatic declaration of independence but would simply lead to further negotiations with Baghdad.

Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) highlighted the significance that Iran attaches to the security of its borders. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an ongoing military exercise in Iran’s northwestern border regions on Sunday, Brigadier General Hossein Salami said ensuring border security and protection of the border areas is a top priority for the IRGC forces. In order to ensure full security along the borders, the IRGC both demonstrates its defensive readiness and chases the enemies in practice, he said of the purposes of the ongoing military drill. Pointing to the crises that Iran’s neighboring countries are facing, the General lashed out at the hegemonic powers for favoring a geopolitical change in the world. The global arrogance and its allies are trying to change the world’s geopolitical map, he added.

Iran closes airspace to Iraqi Kurdistan Region upon Baghdad request

Senior national security official announced on Sunday that Iran has closed its air space to Iraqi Kurdistan Region upon a request by the latter’s central government. Iran halted all its flights to airports of the cities of Sulaymaniyah and Erbil and closed its air space to the all passing flights from the Iraqi kurdistan Region upon request of Iraq’s central government,’ said Supreme National Security Council Spokesman Kayvan Khosravi. He made the announcement while speaking to reporters after an extraordinary session of the SNSC held on Sunday morning to discuss a request by the Iraqi central government concerning closure of Iran’s borders with Iraqi Kurdistan Region. “Iran’s aerial borders were closed to flights from the Iraqi Kurdistan Region based on a request by the central government of that country after Tehran’s political well-wishing efforts were ineffective and due to the insistence of officials of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region for holding a referendum,” said the spokesman.

IRGC Official Warns of Serious Regional Challenges after Iraqi Kurdistan Referendum

Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Deputy Commander for political affairs Brigadier General Rasoul Sanayee Rad warned that the referendum for independence in the Iraqi Kurdistan region will lead to serious regional problems. “Holding a referendum under the conditions that we are moving to the post-ISIL era can pave the ground for serious regional challenges for Iraq and other neighboring states”, General Sanayee Rad said on Tuesday. Referring to the Iraqi government and parliament’s opposition to the referendum, he said President of the Iraqi Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani has dissolved the parliament in the region in the past few years and ruled the region via ethnic and family ties and his plan to hold a referendum rather than benefiting the Kurdish people is a personal move for family gains. “In addition to the Iraqi officials and people and the neighboring states, the European countries are also opposed to the referendum plan after experiencing insecurities in Europe”, General Sanayee Rad said.

Official: Iran never to accept renegotiating JCPOA

Supreme Leader’s Advisor for Strategic International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran under no circumstances will accept to renegotiate the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Speaking to reporters, he said nuclear talks were very prolonged and no offer for its revision or its change by any party is acceptable, Velayati said. On regional developments, he said Iran’s stances accordingly are crystal clear which include support for territorial integrity of all countries in the region, including Iraq, Velayati said. Polling in Kurdistan as part of an independent country like Iraq will lead to the disintegration of the country and the Iraqi government along with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the international community are opposed to such move, he said.

Iran Warns Iraqi Kurdistan of Harsh Repercussions of Referendum for Ties with Neighbors

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani warned that referendum for independence in the Iraqi Kurdistan region will have dire impacts on ties with the neighboring states. “The Islamic Republic of Iran which has always and in the hardest conditions stood beside the Kurdish brothers as a friend and ally doesn’t rate holding referendum as beneficial to the Iraqi Kurdistan region and is opposed to it”, Shamkhani said in an interview with the state TV on Sunday. He underlined the Kurdish officials’ influential and important role in the Iraqi government, and said, “The neighbors’ opposition to the referendum will create complicated and harsh conditions for Kurdistan in the region after the referendum”.

Commander Says Iran Has Father-of-All-Bombs, US Military Command Center Penetrated by IRGC

Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said Iran is in possession of domestically-made 10-ton father of all bombs with a high destructive power, adding that the IRGC has penetrated into the US military command centers and collected evidence of their support for the ISIL terrorists. “Following a proposal by the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Iran’s Defense Industries Organization manufactured a 10-ton bomb; these bombs are at our disposal and can be launched from Ilyushin aircraft and they are highly destructive,” General Hajizadeh said in a televised interview on Friday. The commander pointed to the ordnance as Iran’s “father of all bombs” as compared with the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), also known as the “mother of all bombs”, which the US Air Force dropped on tunnels in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province from an MC-130 aircraft in April.

Astana statement affirms combating terrorism in Syria, whether inside or outside de-escalation zones

The guarantor states of the cessation of hostilities in Syria (Russia, Iran and Turkey) have renewed their strong commitment to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and to combating terrorism in it. Kazakh Foreign Minister Abdrakhmanov read out the final statement at the end of plenary meeting of Astana-6 talks in which” the guarantor states renewed their strong commitment to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic as they reached to an agreement on de-escalation zones, including Idleb area”, The statement added that  a Russian-Iranian-Turkish coordination center was set up to avoid incidents in the areas of de-escalation zones in Syria, adding that these areas will be set up for six months and can be extended. Fnally, it said that the guarantor countries are determined to combat terrorism in Syria, whether inside or outside the de-escalation zones.

Russia, Turkey, Iran Finally Agree on Idlib Safe Zone in Syria

Russia, Turkey and Iran have agreed on all four safe zones in Syria, including on the Idlib de-escalation area, a source in one of the delegations said Friday. The source said that Russian and Iranian forces will monitor areas controlled by the government side in the Idlib safe zone, while the Turkish forces will be involved in monitoring the opposition there. So far, three zones of de-escalation have been established in Syria: in the South along the border with Jordan, in Eastern Ghouta and to the North of Homs, while negotiations on the fourth de-escalation zone in the Idlib province were held since summer and were the main issue on the agenda at the Astana-6 talks, which conclude on Friday.
