in Senza categoria by

The chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi says the Islamic Republic should strengthen relations with Russia and China to counter tougher US policies expected after President Donald Trump’s appointment of John Bolton as national security adviser. “The use of hardline elements against to the Islamic Republic of Iran shows that the Americans seek to exert more pressure on Iran”, he said. He added that the harsher US stance vis-à-vis the Islamic Republic is mainly aimed at appeasing the Israeli regime and Saudi Arabia to solve Washington’s economic issues: “Therefore, it was predictable that we would witness toughened US policies in this regard”. He pointed out: “China and Russia are two important and influential members of the UN Security Council and the expansion of relations will help neutralize and reduce the impact of US pressure”.

in ASIA by

New Delhi’s ambassador to Beijing, Gautam Bambawale, during a visit to Hong Kong said China and India have to be “frank and candid” to reduce their ongoing tensions and to prevent another Doklam, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to China in June. Bambawale said also political communication between the two nations had resumed after the Doklam crisis last year, when troops from both nations faced off for more than two months over the dispute. However, he said that the dispute had started because China had “altered the status quo” in the region, adding that both sides should refrain from doing so in future to maintain peace and stability. While the troops on the ground can talk to each other, the two nations’ military headquarters are still not communicating with each other, “We would like it to resume as soon as possible. We already have frank and candid discussions, but I mean we need to be more frank and candid with each other” Bambawale said.

Experts should evaluate the amendments of the Penal Code of Bosnia Herzegovina

in EUROPE by

On June 1st last year, the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina found that certain provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) were unconstitutional, and ordered that it be harmonized with the Constitution of BiH and the standards of the European Court of Human Rights within six months. As of today, amendments to the CPC have yet to be adopted. The party Naša Stranka (Our Party), claimed that Parliament’s House of Representatives started dealing with this issue only after the expiration of the deadline. Moreover, the proposals for amendments to the CPC of BiH were sent from several parties, however, none of the proposed amendments was made by a group of experts in the field of criminal law. Naša Stranka believes that in this way the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been put in jeopardy, because of the interest of certain parties to not adopt amendments so as to protect themselves from criminal prosecution for corruption. For this reason, Naša Stranka has requested that the Ministry of Justice of BiH reassemble the Criminal Legislation Monitoring Team.

Former Afghan intelligence chief against safe zones for Taliban

in Senza categoria by

After Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s demands for the establishment of the safe zones for the Taliban, the former Afghan intelligence chief and leader of the Afghanistan Green Trend movement Amrullah Saleh reacted negatively in an online statement posted on his official Twitter account. He warned that the deal would create a national issue similar to Durand Line agreement. He underlined that the deal would mean that the Durand Line would further pushed to the gates of Kabul and the agreement will be similar as that of the Gandomak treaty. Speaking during a press conference in Kabul, the leader of Hezb-e-Islami pointed towards his recommendations for the safe zones for Taliban and said such zones should be created to help protect the Taliban group members and their families who are willing to join peace process. He rejected the notion that Hezb-e-Islami supports the handover of the control of certain provinces to Taliban.
However, the Taliban group has refused to partecipate in direct peace talks with the Afghan government and insists on direct talks with the US, even if the Afghan government prepared to identify the group as a political group if it refrains from insurgency and join peace talks.

Wrong blood type threatens soldier’s life

in DEFENCE by

The Special Inspector General For Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) in its recent report has said that many
wounded Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel lose their lives due to wrong blood type injections. According to
the report, thousands of ANA personnel have been recruited without their blood being tested or their blood type
have been typed wrongly. The report said that an advisor assisting ANA personnel at Afghan National Army
Recruiting Command told that he was aware that ANA soldiers have been killed from receiving the wrong type of
blood.
Defense Ministry spokesman DawlatWaziri said that he completely rejects this, because it is impossible to send
soldiers to their departments without determining their blood type. The report highlights that in 2017, between
January and July, at least 15,400 new personnel recruited in the ANA did not have their blood tested. The report
says the Afghan National Army Recruiting Command (ANAREC) relied on the results the new soldiers and personnel
brought from the local doctors without knowing whether the physician actually had tested the blood or no. During
the course of the review, SIGAR received information that physicians may be stamping medical forms without
collecting and testing blood samples.

U.S, Turkey in talks over patriot missiles

in POLITICS/turkey by

Turkey and the United States are in talks over the procurement of the Patriot missile system, and a senior U.S. official is expected to pay a visit to Ankara on March 31 to discuss the issue. Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said that Turkey will continue talks on Patriot missiles and other systems compatible with NATO, adding that Ankara looks positively towards all kinds of joint work that will guarantee the security of the southern borders of the country. He said that the U.S. is still an ally despite the situation in Syria. Yıldırım said that this would not be an “alternative” to the Russian S-400 anti-missile defense systems, that are “independent” systems. Turkey continues to hold talks with the Franco-Italian Eurosam consortium and the U.S. to buy missile defense systems. In fact, the system that Turkey is buying from Russia cannot be integrated into NATO systems. Foreign Ministry undersecretary Ümit Yalçın is set to visit Washington soon, “possibly next week,” as part of working groups established between Turkey and the U.S., said Aksoy.

EU against Turkey’s policy in Mediterranean

in POLITICS by

The statement by the 28 European Union member states meeting in Brussels strongly condemned Turkey’s “illegal actions” toward Greece and Cyprus in a blistering denunciation. This comes after Turkey’s arrest of two Greek soldiers, and its promise to prevent the internationally-recognized Greek Cypriot government from exploring for oil and gas. EU calls on Turkey to respect the sovereign rights of Cyprus and to normalize relations with Cyprus. A standoff over exploiting energy resources in the region risks further complicating stalled efforts to reunify Cyprus after U.N.-backed talks collapsed last year. In recent weeks Turkish warships blocked an Italian drillship from exploring for gas in the east Mediterranean island’s waters. The leaders also expressed grave concern over the continued detention of EU citizens in Turkey, including two Greek soldiers and called for these issues to be resolved through dialogue with the EU member states. The Greek soldiers were arrested on March 2 for entering a military zone in the northern Turkish province of Edirne and are waiting for their case to be heard. The summit’s denunciation will hang over an EU-Turkey summit in the Bulgaria, aimed at improving strained ties because the EU sees Turkey as a strategic partner in the fight against terrorism.
