Saudi Arabia reaffirms solidarity with Palestinians

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its “firm support and full solidarity” with the Palestinian people at the UN on Thursday.The address at the UN was delivered by Manal Hassan Radwan, political coordinator of Saudi Arabia’s permanent delegation to the UN. She called for “the establishment of an independent and sovereign state (on) all of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967”. She highlighted the “destruction of Palestinian land, the destruction of thousands of houses, buildings and infrastructure, all the human and material damage inflicted on the Palestinian people for more than 70 years.” She said the half-century of occupation and decade of the Gaza blockade will not be forgotten for generations.“Saudi Arabia calls for the Palestinian cause and its legal, political and humanitarian rights… to be at the forefront of the international community’s concerns, with a view to the immediate implementation of all UN resolutions in this regard”. She called for immediate international protection for the Palestinians in the occupied territories.

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents and is providing cooperation that promises to take Special Counsel Robert Mueller deep into Donald Trump’s administration. Speaking in court as part of his plea agreement, Flynn, 58, said Trump’s team asked him to make contact with Russians and that he told the incoming administration what he was doing. Flynn called a senior official from the transition team for guidance before talking to the Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. and then reported back to the transition team after the call. The plea is a major step for Mueller’s quickly advancing investigation. Mueller has already charged Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his deputy over their earlier business activities, as well as a guilty plea from George Papadopoulos, a campaign adviser who pursued Russia’s help during last year’s election. Papadopoulos is cooperating with the probe.

Macedonia, Bulgaria and Albania: possibilities for fostering defense cooperation

The Macedonian, Bulgarian Defense Ministers and Albanian Deputy DM, Radmila Sekerinska, Krasimir Karakachanov and Petro Kochi respectively, discussed Friday in Ohrid on possibilities for fostering the cooperation in the sphere of defense.Today we have expressed political will to strengthen our cooperation in defense and our teams will begin to prepare plans for 2018, Sekerinska said after the meeting, which ‘voiced strong support for the Alliance’s open door policy and Macedonia’s full-fledged NATO membership.’ The closer cooperation between Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania doesn’t cover only the economic cooperation with respect to Corridor 8, but may also be extended to the sphere of defense, Karakachanov said.Kochi said that Albania and Bulgaria would be staunch advocates for Macedonia to join NATO as soon as possible, as the membership status is significant not only to the citizens of the country, but also to the region as a whole.

Tunisia ranks 12th in the Arab world

At the global level, Tunisia ranks 117th out of 160 countries in terms of economic freedom. The first ones are Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, followed by Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Palestine, Oman, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt , Morocco, Djibouti, Mauritania, Comoros, Sudan, Iraq, Algeria, Libya and Syria, which took last place. The work of the second regional congress of economic freedom in the Arab world (Tunis, 25 and 26 November) was closed by the formulation of several recommendations. This Congress was also an opportunity to present the 12th report on economic freedom in the Arab world in 2017. Tunisia ranked 12th out of 22 Arab countries, but it has lost only one position compared to last year. This report was developed by the Canadian Frizer Institute, based on objective criteria – to measure the degree of economic freedom in each country considering the commercial law, protection of property rights, monetary policy, freedom of trade and the organization of commercial activity. The report presented at the congress included a set of recommendations on economic freedom to improve the index in some Arab countries suffering an economic deficit.

 Germany to provide EUR 750,000 for Maltese Relief Service projects in Ukraine

Germany will provide an additional EUR 750,000 for humanitarian projects of the Maltese Relief Service in Ukraine in 2018-2019, the German Embassy in Ukraine has reported. “The government of the Federal Republic of Germany will continue to provide support to the Maltese Relief Service to continue its humanitarian assistance project with the aim of psychosocial care of persons affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine. For this purpose, Germany will allocate about EUR 750,000 in 2018-2019”, the embassy said in a statement on Thursday. The project provides for the development of skills of representatives of local authorities, humanitarian agencies and support services in the form of training events, as well as providing direct services to support those affected by the conflict in Donbas. The embassy said that earlier this project received EUR 1.2 million in support from the German government. The diplomats said that target areas of the measures are Donetsk and Luhansk regions, where mobile teams are deployed to help people in remote areas.

Commander of the Iranian Navy: Production of Nuclear Propulsion Systems on Agenda

Speaking in a televised interview, the commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, stressing that one of the major tasks of the Navy is to defend the country in times of war, announced the intention to employ submarine vessels equipped with diesel or nuclear propulsion systems. In fact, the Navy has put the production of nuclear propulsion systems on its agenda. Nuclear propulsion system is more advantageous than diesel one because it increases submarines’ ability to remain submerged and thus increases the country’s deterrent power. “Given that in recent years, there have been good advances in the country’s nuclear science, the production of nuclear propulsion (systems)… is on the agenda of the Navy”, as commander Rear Admiral Khanzadi said. In recent years, Iranian military experts and technicians have made great progresses in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere. Tehran has always assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to the regional countries: the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.

Iranian FM: the JCPOA is not enough

On Tuesday, during his speech at the third edition of the Rome MED-Mediterranean Dialogues, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not negotiable. He also underlined the fact that the EU’s support for the nuclear deal is appropriate but not sufficient and more practical measures should be taken by the bloc in this regard. Also Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in October had described the stances adopted by some European governments against recent comments made by US President Donald Trump against Iran and the JCPOA as good but insufficient. The Iranian top diplomat in his speech discussed about regional crisis and the necessity, although the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group has been defeated militarily, to defeat Daesh ideology all over the word. “Terrorists should be attacked from cultural, ideological, political and financial fronts and we should restrict their access to financial resources and weaponry”, added the Iranian FM. The Rome MED-Mediterranean Dialogues is an annual high-level initiative co-organized by Italy’s Foreign Ministry and the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI).

Russian Envoy Urges US Partners to Resume Dialogue

Our commitment and determination is enormous and we intend to use this opportunity, Dimitrov said.Informing about the reforms in Macedonia, Dimitrov stressed that the country wants to build strong and democratic institutions, to strengthen the rule of law and make Macedonia a desirable fully fledged member of the Euro-Atlantic community.At the panel entitled “Great Risk, Great Reward: Tackling the Balkans’ Enduring Political Challenges”, which was attended by Hoyt Yee, Enver Hoxha and Astrit Istrefi, and moderated by Janusz Bugajski, Dimitrov spoke about the current situation in the Republic of Macedonia with a special accent to overcoming the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece.Dimitrov also met with regional experts Daniel Serwer, Edward Joseph, Michael Haltzel and Damon Wilson, Executive Vice President at Atlantic Council of the United States and exchanged views on the current situation and perspectives of the region.

Hoxhaj: Agreement with Serbia can happen within next two years

Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister, Enver Hoxhaj, said at the conferences for Balkans organized in Washington by the Atlantic Council, that dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia should move to a final phase and the full normalisation of relations. Hoxhaj said this could be reached in two years and that this agreement would require the support of the international community, especially of the European Union and the United States of America. Hoxhaj further argued that internal dialogue on Kosovo in Serbia initiated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. He added that Serbia’s campaigns against Kosovo affect the process of dialogue, reached agreements and the agreements that should be reached in the final phase. He said there is no reason for Kosovo to continue with dialogue if it does not become a member of the United Nations and if mutual recognition with Serbia is not reached.
